Qualifications
A degree in Respiratory Care from an accredited respiratory care program is required; minimum associate degree or equivalent as defined by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
Respiratory Therapists must have a thorough knowledge and understanding of all procedures, indications, contraindications and hazards involved in respiratory care, as well as knowledge of equipment utilized in their department. Demonstrates the ability and knowledge required to utilize computers for patient documentation and data gathering for quality care. Must complete orientations, competency validations, and other in-servicing as required by the department and hospital.
Must have current Respiratory Therapy licensure in state(s) of practice and/or possess multi-state licensure privileges as required by position.
Must have Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credentials as attained through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) and maintain active status according to NBRC credentialing requirements.
Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required. Must obtain site-specific specialty credential(s) such as Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), etc.

Job summary: Under the supervision of the Critical Care Director, Medical Director and Respiratory Department Manager, the respiratory therapist is responsible for providing Respiratory Care services in accordance with specific physician's orders, department policies and procedures.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
* Maintains knowledge of the various methods of oxygen delivery, including the necessary equipment. Remains alert, assesses possible side effects to oxygen delivery
* Administers respiratory therapy treatments, understands the purpose of each and the possible side effects associated with each.

and remains current in the field of Respiratory Care. Demonstrates knowledge of clinical chemistries to
include ABGs and electrolytes and assists others in the application of results. Is a member of the Rapid
Response and Resuscitation Teams and skillfully establishes and maintains artificial airways in emergencies.
Competent in use and quality control for all point of care analyzers.
Participates and facilitates quality improvement projects. Facilitates patient discharge to home and provides
patient and family education. Provides clinical assistance in the orientation of new employees and students
on clinical rotation. Provides education to all clinical team members to include physicians and nurses at the
bedside and informal classroom setting. Maintains Basic and Advanced certifications as appropriate to
assigned areas such as BLS, ACLS, FCCS, PALS, and NRP.

Maintains current knowledge via hospital and department communication tools. Identifies problems and recommends ideas and solutions. Demonstrates critical thinking skills. Participates/Provides in-service training.

Job Summary:
The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for implementing respiratory care based on expanded knowledge, experience, and the evaluate‐and‐treat process. The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for delivering patient care in complex, multiple problem‐patient care situations. The majority of time is in outpatient Pulmonary Rehabilitation, with significant independent decision‐making and self direction. In addition, to patient care delivery, the Respiratory Therapist is responsible for patient, family/support system education, coordination of activities, staff development, and professional and self‐developmental activities. The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing patient care with an understanding and awareness of population specific needs. The Respiratory Therapist addresses the biological, emotional, and developmental, psychosocial, and patient/family education needs when providing care to the patient. The Respiratory Therapist partners with the multidisciplinary team of professionals and the develops individualized goal‐oriented care plans and exercise prescriptions.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Provides Customer Service

* e. Performs pulse oximetry tests during pulmonary rehab sessions as well as 6MWT (six‐minute walk test).

* e. Teaches and promotes respiratory muscle training, diaphragm and pursed‐lip breathing.
* f. Educates patient and mentors/precepts new employees, students and peers
