General The Direct Support Professional (DSP) - Community Living Supports is responsible for providing individualized services that promote independence, informed choice, personal growth, and community participation for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Supports occur in the person's home, neighborhood, or broader community and are delivered in accordance with the Individual Support Plan (ISP), Oregon Administrative Rule (OAR) 411-450, and Shangri-La policies and procedures. These services are intended to be flexible and responsive to the person's unique strengths, preferences, and needs.
Position Details:
Status: Part Time up to 29 Hours
Location: Salem, OR
Shift: This position has varying hours including weekends and evenings and must have on-call availability
Starting wage: $20.14 Hourly
Wage Scale: $20.14 to $25.48Report to: CES - Manager
Knowledge:
Knowledge: A High School Diploma or equivalent is required. One year of experience working with individuals with disabilities is preferred. Candidates must have a valid Oregon Driver's License, an acceptable driving record, and must be able to pass a criminal background check. A strong understanding of person-centered planning, alternative communication strategies, the principles of dignity of risk, and the ability to implement trauma-informed support practices is preferred. The DSP must be proficient in Microsoft Office and capable of learning and using current and future electronic documentation systems and workplace technologies.

General Facility Management:
Responsible for group home cleanliness. Assigns cleaning activities to shifts/DSPs and ensures daily cleaning tasks and sanitation are performed.
Monitor household/grounds for cleanliness to ensure a safe environment and submit work orders for the group home as needed.
Conducts quarterly fire drills and Safety Checklists
Ensure adequate program supplies including but not limited to groceries, cleaning supplies, etc…
Manage programs within agency approved budgets, including the supply budget, staffing hours, and overtime usage, etc.
Meal plan nutritious and economical meals and snacks that support a wide variety of health and dietary needs.
Maintain security of all keys, files, and facilities
Responsible for picking up prescribed medications from the pharmacy in a timely manner and are readily available for administration wherever needed (the program, school's, packed for tips, etc…)
Confirms medication orders are accurate, complete, and consistent with physician instructions.
Responsible for archiving old program and client documents in compliance with OAR requirements and agency policies.
Individual Care:
Ensure individuals are receiving the highest quality care.
Ensure safety of individuals in the home against fire, theft, physical/verbal abuse, and report incidents to Protective Services.
Develop and maintain positive working relationships with community agencies, families, guardians, state and county agencies, and support staff.
Mitigate program schedules to maintain health and safety.
Be available Monday - Friday for afterhours calls regarding your program. These calls should be for emergencies, crisis, and shift coverage when necessary.
Participation in the on-call weekend rotation.
Attend new individual, entries, exits, and meetings as necessary along with completing or assisting with entry packets for new client move ins.
Dispose of unused, expired, or discontinued medications per company policy.
Adhere to medication management protocol and monitor changes in medication orders.
Complete weekly support / tracking audits that are sent out by the QA department.
Follow company and state guidelines for timely electronic record documentation in Therap and any other required tracking systems.
Annual Planning regarding Individual Support Plans (ISP) and upkeep of Personal Property Records for the residence.
Ensure each resident has routine and equal access to the community and preferred activities, either through assigning staff or direct assistance.
Staff Supervision:
Assist in crisis intervention by supporting program employees (may be after hours).
Monitor interactions with employees and peers to ensure professionalism and ethical behavior. Initiates resolution with employee issues and concerns.
Provide staff with direction, supervision, and training.
Conducts regular staff meetings and ensure adequate and consistent attendance by all staff members to ensure all staff follow safety rules and regulations.
Conduct annual performance reviews.
Ensures that employees meet training requirements
Quickly and effectively respond to natural disasters and train staff on in-home emergency preparedness.
Regularly train staff on ISPs
Fill in as a Direct Support Professional whenever necessary to ensure compliance with the staffing ratio and/or to continue to foster teamwork and mentor staff.
Supervises staff work performance. Provides corrective action as needed.
Works with Human Resources to document coaching, counseling, disciplinary and termination actions.
Other Duties/Expectations:
Attend and positively participate in required meetings.

Review and rectify any errors in timecards or attendance in our time keeping system weekly.
Approve / Deny PTO request based on client needs / health and safety on a first come first serve basis.
Act as representative and advocate regarding any medical or financial matter for the clients in the program.
Maintain program compliance to meet licensing requirements at all times.

Qualifications

Working Conditions:
The position works primarily in a group home setting with occasional work in an office environment and may require travel to other group homes or the main office. Additional physical requirements include bending, stooping, and safely maneuvering up to 75 pounds during client behavioral interventions. Duties:
General Facility Management:
Responsible for group home cleanliness. Assigns cleaning activities to shifts/DSPs and ensures daily cleaning tasks and sanitation are performed.
Monitor household/grounds for cleanliness to ensure a safe environment and submit work orders for the group home as needed.
Conducts quarterly fire drills and Safety Checklists
Ensure adequate program supplies including but not limited to groceries, cleaning supplies, etc
Manage programs within agency approved budgets, including the supply budget, staffing hours, and overtime usage, etc.
Meal plan nutritious and economical meals and snacks that support a wide variety of health and dietary needs.
Maintain security of all keys, files, and facilities
Responsible for picking up prescribed medications from the pharmacy in a timely manner and are readily available for administration wherever needed (the program, schools, packed for tips, etc)
Confirms medication orders are accurate, complete, and consistent with physician instructions.
Responsible for archiving old program and client documents in compliance with OAR requirements and agency policies.
Individual Care:
Ensure individuals are receiving the highest quality care.
Ensure safety of individuals in the home against fire, theft, physical/verbal abuse, and report incidents to Protective Services.
Develop and maintain positive working relationships with community agencies, families, guardians, state and county agencies, and support staff.
Mitigate program schedules to maintain health and safety.
Be available Monday Friday for afterhours calls regarding your program. These calls should be for emergencies, crisis, and shift coverage when necessary.
Participation in the on-call weekend rotation.
Attend new individual, entries, exits, and meetings as necessary along with completing or assisting with entry packets for new client move ins.
Dispose of unused, expired, or discontinued medications per company policy.
Adhere to medication management protocol and monitor changes in medication orders.
Complete weekly support / tracking audits that are sent out by the QA department.
Follow company and state guidelines for timely electronic record documentation in Therap and any other required tracking systems.
Annual Planning regarding Individual Support Plans (ISP) and upkeep of Personal Property Records for the residence.
Ensure each resident has routine and equal access to the community and preferred activities, either through assigning staff or direct assistance.
Staff Supervision:
Assist in crisis intervention by supporting program employees (may be after hours).
Monitor interactions with employees and peers to ensure professionalism and ethical behavior. Initiates resolution with employee issues and concerns.
Provide staff with direction, supervision, and training.
Conducts regular staff meetings and ensure adequate and consistent attendance by all staff members to ensure all staff follow safety rules and regulations.
Conduct annual performance reviews.
Ensures that employees meet training requirements
Quickly and effectively respond to natural disasters and train staff on in-home emergency preparedness.
Regularly train staff on ISPs
Fill in as a Direct Support Professional whenever necessary to ensure compliance with the staffing ratio and/or to continue to foster teamwork and mentor staff.
Supervises staff work performance. Provides corrective action as needed.
Works with Human Resources to document coaching, counseling, disciplinary and termination actions.
Other Duties/Expectations:
Attend and positively participate in required meetings.
Ongoing development of skills and competencies.
Follow all corporate policies, procedures, and protocols.
Demonstrate professional boundaries, abide by HIPPA, and complete required annual trainings.
Create a supportive, positive, and professional environment in the home
Ensure all medical needs are met, documented, adhered to, and arrange any training necessary.
Ensure all clients' rights are upheld and that care is provided in a manner that is respectful of the individuals likes and dislikes and is in accordance with the Individual Service Plan.
Verify and approve timecards
Review and rectify any errors in timecards or attendance in our time keeping system weekly.
Approve / Deny PTO request based on client needs / health and safety on a first come first serve basis.
Act as representative and advocate regarding any medical or financial matter for the clients in the program.
Maintain program compliance to meet licensing requirements at all times.
Any and all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The following qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform the job but are not all inclusive.
High School Diploma or GED required
2+ years of experience working with people with developmental disabilities required.
Must have the ability to pass a criminal background check upon hire
Possess a valid drivers license with good driving record and insured vehicle available for use on the job.
1-3 years of experience working in a group home setting required.
1-3 years of supervisory experience required.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Ability to obtain/maintain First Aid and CPR certification
Ability to obtain/maintain OIS certification

Working Conditions:
The position works primarily in a group home setting with occasional work in an office environment and may require travel to other group homes or the main office. The role requires good manual dexterity and the ability to sit, stand, kneel, climb stairs, squat, get in and out of a vehicle, and frequently lift and carry up to 30 pounds, as well as occasionally stand, walk, or sit for extended periods. Additional physical requirements include bending, stooping, and safely maneuvering up to 75 pounds during client behavioral interventions. The job involves phone and computer use, frequent hand washing after physical contact, and may require wearing personal protective equipment. Employees must be able to quickly apply non-aversive crisis intervention techniques, actively listen, observe, and monitor their own actions to avoid disturbing the clients environment. The position is subject to frequent interruptions, requires flexibility to adapt to frequent changes, and may involve working with individuals who may engage in challenging behaviors. Travel with or without clients is required, along with safe driving practices, and regular attendance is essential to perform the job satisfactorily.
