    The Water Department Night Service Worker responds to emergency calls to the Water Department, assesses the scene of the emergency and determines the appropriate level of response, including calling out crews to perform repairs. As the Night Service Worker, the employee responds to after hours (including weekends and holidays) emergency calls to the Water Department, working independently to assess emergencies and determine the appropriate level of response. The work is performed under the supervision of the Plumbing Supervisor. The job requires knowledge of methods and techniques of water line installation, maintenance, and repair, operation of power tools and equipment such as dump trucks with trailers, loaders and compactors. The job requires a Class I Drinking Water Distribution Operator Certification.* The job requires the ability to maintain a collaborative and cooperative working relationship with elected and appointed officials, other City employees, other organizations, and the general public. The work environment is a public street environment that may include exposure to adverse weather conditions, trench excavations, traffic hazards, moving vehicles and heavy equipment at the job site, and hazards involving the use of power tools and equipment. The noise level is generally moderate but with occasional exposure to noisy and/or loud equipment. The job is an on-call position, responding to emergency situations. Employees designated as immediate response personnel must live thirty (30) minutes or less from their usual daily work site. Sets up traffic control at leak sites for public safety. * Performs repair work if possible and/or calls for assistance from repair crews. * Monitors current work and/or repair sites to ensure traffic control measures including cones and barricades are effective. * Thaws frozen lines and meters. * Turns off water service to delinquent customers identified by Utility Billing and premises being vacated. Turn water service on to new customers, repair and/or replace service lines, customers who have become current on bill, and premises being occupied. * Locates lines for customers and private contractors. * Assists repair crews by running parts and locating lines. * Tests meters for customers with higher-than-average water usage to determine if meter is properly working. * Documents work done at job site to maintain accurate database of City water distribution system. * Performs basic maintenance on vehicles and equipment. * Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies, procedures, and safety practices. * Performs other duties as assigned. Candidates will work with children and adults who need support with activities of daily living such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, grooming, self-administration of medication, behavioral supports and accessing the community. Work Schedule: Part-Time shifts available can include either day 7a-3p/8a-4p or evening shifts 3p-9p/4p-12a.Your schedule is a set shift assigned to you at hire.
