Position Overview:
KC Pet Project's Satellite Adoption Center team members are critical to the success of our lifesaving efforts in creating a safe and compassionate community for pets and people. Our dedicated and dynamic satellite adoptions center team of staff and volunteers work together to provide care and enrichment for our adoptable animals, matchmake potential adopters with a well-suited family pet, and build relationships with community members through excellent customer service, processing adoptions, and soliciting support for our mission.
Duties and Daily Responsibilities:
Responsible for being an exemplary role model in customer experience excellence. Make a good appearance, maintain a positive attitude, and deal tactfully and effectively with the public. Represent KC Pet Project in a professional, caring, and solution-oriented manner while embracing our “Solutions, Not Excuses” and “One Mission, One Team” mottos.
Provide excellent customer service, including but not limited to interactions with guests, potential adopters, facilitating meet-and-greet sessions, explaining any history we have on the animal, conducting dog to dog introductions, and dealing tactfully and effectively with the public. Promote repeat business and word-of-mouth advertising through the building of excellent customer relations.
Communicate clearly and effectively through varying channels, including but not limited to, postal mail, phone conversations and face-to-face dialogue respectfully and compassionately.
Conduct animal adoption interviews and assist/educate new adopters on topics such as basic animal behavior, positive training methods, vaccinations, microchips and other medical information and paperwork that needs to be covered with clients.
Responsible for actively engaging customers to increase donations and merchandise sales at our adoption center location and/or special events to help reach revenue goals and ensure new adopters have the necessary items they need for their new pets. Solicit tax-deductible financial donations from guests and adopters, assist with acknowledging donors, and putting away in-kind donations.
Ensure adherence to the LIMA (Least Invasive Minimally Aversive) philosophy to handling and training and follow all safe handling protocols to provide a humane and enriching environment for the animals in the care of KC Pet Project, including but not limited to, actively engaging, enriching, socializing, training, and ensuring proper exercise.
Provide daily observation of the animals in the care of KC Pet Project's satellite adoption center(s), effectively communicate changes or concerns to the veterinary and/or behavior team in a timely manner with accurate and complete observations noted in the shelter software system.
Organize and maintain all materials necessary for adoptions of animals, including but not limited to applications, contracts, vaccination and rabies certificates, office supplies, and educational and promotional materials. Complete animal adoptions, ensuring all transaction paperwork and computer records are complete and accurate in PetPoint, and schedules animals for veterinary appointments as needed.
Process all daily paperwork, deposits, and other essential processes with accuracy and attention to detail. Collect fees and donations for services, through the completion of cash handling and processing credit card transactions. Responsible for retail center merchandising, pricing, inventory restocking and letting appropriate personnel know when inventory levels are low.
Engage politely and meaningfully with volunteers and ensure a positive and welcoming environment. Responsible for teaching and mentoring volunteers to ensure their success in meeting the department's needs.
Adhere to all organizational and departmental policies and procedures, applicable local and state requirements, and follow KCPP safety, cleanliness and disease control processes and procedures, including ongoing cleaning of public areas to decrease biological risks to humans and other animals, in accordance with all health and security rules.
Communicate regularly with the department manager about departmental issues or concerns and actively contribute to problem solving.
Perform other duties and special projects, as assigned, and as needed.

Qualifications/Educational Background:
High School Diploma or equivalent

Previous experience in the care and handling of animals in a shelter, vet clinic, or boarding facility is highly desirable.

Prepares for time away from home, including family visits and vacations, by assisting with preparing luggage and medications with accurate printed instructions, and provides appropriate documentation that includes dates and times of departure and return.
Demonstrate strengths in cooking and menu planning, money management, organization of resident's schedules and activities, home maintenance, and the ability to develop a positively evolving and capable team.

PHYSICAL EXPECTATIONS
This position requires extended periods of walking and standing with some periods of sitting which is dependent upon the needs and activities of the individuals supported. It may require light to heavy lifting, up to 50 pounds independently, and occasional stooping, kneeling, bending, and/or climbing stairs depending on the needs of the individual supported.
The position will require occasional physical intervention if confronted by a person displaying combative or potentially dangerous behavior.
Driving an agency or personal vehicle is a part of community integration for the individuals we support.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Office/home environment with noises from appliances, telephones, and occasional small machinery (lawn mower, etc.). May be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and/or infectious diseases. Occasionally, prolonged hours or unusual chores to meet the unexpected needs of the individuals (i.e., medical and/or behavioral).
QUALIFICATIONS
Be at least 18 years of age and provide proof of high school diploma or G.E.D.
Must be able to communicate effectively in English - both in writing and orally.
Must not have been convicted of any disqualifying felony and must not have been substantiated for abuse or neglect in the state of Missouri, as recorded by the Department of Mental Health's Employee Disqualification List.
Must have reliable transportation for transporting clients.
Must demonstrate safe practices in all areas and exemplify positive professional standards.
