Job Description
Johnson County Developmental Supports (JCDS) is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of on-call DirectSupportProfessional for their residential services division. JCDS serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We focus on individuals' abilities, provide choice driven supports, and advocate alongside people to live and work in our community. We aspire to build a community that promotes, supports, and embraces people of all abilities. DirectSupportProfessionals are responsible for the delivery of services with JCDS. Initial review of candidates will begin July 1, 2025. Periodic review of candidates will occur until September 30, 2025.

Provides, assists with, or coaches individuals on personal care needs with limited supervision; provides crisis interventions, including physical intervention and restraint to ensure the safety of individuals; monitors and/or administers medication as prescribed; monitors and documents mental and physical condition of individuals.
Teaches, coaches and provides guidance and support on various skills to enable productive lives of individuals; assists individual and family members to identify strategies or treatment options and participates in the development and modification of plans to regain ability to make independent choices and promote coping skills; develops and maintains a positive and effective relationship with service recipients, families, and other service providers, serving as the main point of contact.
Organizes and participates in meetings related to care coordination; completes documentation for direct services provided to ensure timely and accurate completion.
Transports individuals receiving services to appointments, activities, and/or work.
Job Requirements
Minimum Job Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent and a valid driver's license and good driving record are required.
Candidate must be able to successfully complete criminal and motor vehicle background screenings, which includes KDADS required screenings and registry checks.
Preferred Job Requirements:
One year of related experience working in a human services field is preferred.
Education/Experience Substitutions:

KNI practices a person-centered philosophy to support our residents so they can have the quality of life they deserve by recognizing their individuality, honoring their choices, protecting and maintaining their health, helping to build and maintain their relationships with others, and making sure that they are included in every aspect of their lives; in their homes, in their jobs, and in the community.
KNI has 19 homes with directsupport staff assisting with daily living activities in each home throughout four buildings and is located on a large campus, east of the VA hospital in Topeka. KNI is funded in part by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and is subject to requirements bestowed by Federal and State levels of government conditions of participation.
About the Position:
Provide direct service and support to the people who live in Unit 1 at KNI so they can achieve personal growth and well-being, realize choice, attain full inclusion, and celebrate their individuality. Provide an environment that promotes a meaningful life. The Unit 1 population uses wheelchairs, has extensive medical needs, and are total care and need full assistance with every aspect of their life.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
* Maintain frequent positive interactions with the individuals living at KNI.
* Support and assist in carrying out individuals' personal lifestyle plans
* Plan community outings and activities
* Serve as a positive role model to the individuals living at KNI

MHDDTs who obtain their CPR, CNA and CMA certifications are required to attend continuing education classes to maintain their certification (s). Work locations on campus between homes may be changed as staffing needs change. Provide direct service and support to the people who live in Unit 2 at KNI so they can achieve personal growth and well-being, realize choice, attain full inclusion, and celebrate their individuality. Provide an environment that promotes a meaningful life.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
* Maintain frequent positive interactions with the individuals living at KNI.
* Support and assist in carrying out individuals' personal lifestyle plans
* Plan community outings and activities

MHDDTs who obtain their CPR, CNA and CMA certifications are required to attend continuing education classes to maintain their certification (s). All staff at KNI must stay current with policies, procedures, and protocols, proper lifting techniques, and all other training needed to keep KNI in regulatory compliance. Work locations on campus between homes may be changed as staffing needs change. KNI is funded by the Center of Medicare and Medicaid Services and is subject to requirements bestowed by Federal and State Levels of Government conditions for participation.

Performing personal care tasks, including feeding, ambulation, and medical monitoring
Assist with fostering positive relationships between individuals served and their housemates

Key Responsibilities:
Provide community-based mental health services through assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and intervention implementation.
Collaborate with clients, families, and stakeholders to craft and execute individualized treatment plans.
Utilize a strengths-based approach that emphasizes empowerment and skill-building, and incorporate evidence-based practices such as Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
Coordinate care effectively with service providers, including primary care physicians and community organizations.
Maintain accurate records of client interactions and progress to ensure compliance with policies.
Participate in staff development activities and contribute to the organization's quality improvement initiatives.
Prepare for and facilitate PSR group sessions pertinent to client treatment goals.
Education, Experience, and/or Credential Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, or a related human services field;
OR
Bachelor's degree in an unrelated field with two years of related work experience;
OR
Any combination of four years of higher education and relevant work experience;
OR
Associate of Applied Science in Behavioral Health Support;
OR
Four years of qualifying experience working with individuals with mental health disorders, substance use disorders, or developmental disabilities.
Additional Qualifications:
Must complete a successful background check including criminal record and driving record.
Current driver's license and acceptable driving record; must have reliable transportation to transport clients.
Physical Requirements:
Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, or pull objects.
Jobs involve sitting most of the time, with occasional walking or standing as needed.
