PURPOSE
This position will lead and support the members of the school staff to assure that effective and efficient behavioral intervention and support systems are in place to support continuous improvement in academics and behavior for students with disabilities. This individual serves as a liaison for central office and school administration to members of the learning community in various aspects of the instructional program. This position is for the remainder of the 2025-26 School Year.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Collaborates with administration and staff to identify students/classes with behavioral concerns, design data collection systems, analyze student/school/district data, develop and implement behavioral intervention programs to support students and teachers.
Provides support and leadership planning on fundamentals of applied behavioral analysis, classroom, student, and school-wide positive behavioral reinforcement systems for students with a wide range of disabilities and conditions, but not limited to, Emotional Disturbance, Autism and Intellectual Disability.
Provides direct assistance to staff members in assessing, planning, developing individual student behavioral support plans, tracking/monitoring data systems and working with teams to increase fidelity to assess student progress.
Models positive behavioral interventions strategies in classrooms for staff members as requested.
Collaborate and work closely with school psychologists to work through tiers of behavior support.
Provides professional development support, assistance, staff development and coaching to paraprofessionals and certificated staff members as requested and recommends effective intervention strategies.
Provides support and leadership in communication with students, parents and various representatives of regular education and the Special Services Departments.
Provides information as needed on programs and services, etc., to staff and parents during IEP meetings and/or student transition meetings.
Keeps up-to-date on effective strategies in the student discipline/behavioral management/applied behavioral analysis fields and related legal regulations and board policies.
Assists in the direction of activities and training of ancillary personnel hired for behavioral interventions and supports for students.
Serves on the Behavior Support Committee and participates in weekly Tier 3 behavior support meetings and other scheduled committee and collaborative meetings as requested.
Willing to become trained in Safe Crisis Management.
Attends conferences or meetings related to district and school goals for student behavior
Performs other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public School District.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum: Master's degree in Special Education, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or other related field; Experience working with students with behavioral and emotional issues, developmental disabilities and autism; Experience consultating with administrators and teachers to improve behavior.
Preferred: Missouri teaching certificate in Special Education or other related field; Experience working in a school setting; BCBA

It is further expected that the Direct Support Professional will actively work towards improving the quality of services offered. Possess creativity to ensure that clients are engaged in meaningful age-appropriate activities that support their outcome objectives. You will be a member of the support team ensuring the clients served remain a top priority. Confidentiality must always be maintained.
The Direct Support Professional is required to maintain cooperative professional working relationships with clients, employees, supervisors, guardians, external providers, and families. The Direct Support Professional must consistently display appropriate conduct as a role model for clients. Interactions with families, primary caretakers and others may be limited, but professionalism is always expected.
The Direct Support Professional in Adult Day Services provides supports to clients with ratios fluctuating between 1:1 and 1:6.
All requisitions for supplies, maintenance work requests, solicitation for donations, Incident/Seizure Reports, etc., must be submitted through recognized administrative channels and standard operating procedures in a timely manner.
Flexibility is expected, as the Direct Support Professional may be required to substitute in other program groups and/or locations when needed.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Actively participate as a member of a team in goal development utilizing client support plans.
Support clients to establish self-determination, advocacy and security.
Plan, prepare for, and implement individual and small group daily activities that are meaningful, age appropriate and support each client's program plan.
Support clients with daily life activities including meals, toileting, dressing, and other personal care.
Ensure the Health and Safety of clients and client Rights remains a priority.
Provide center based or home based and community-based services in accordance with the client's plan.
Ensure all clients are actively engaged and supervised by providing support to client to achieve their individualized goals.
Support peers and supervisor in a collaborative effort to ensure client's needs are met.
Complete all required reporting accurately, in a timely manner and in accordance with guidelines established by the Agency's EHR policy and other Regulatory Entities including but not limited to service documentation, medication administration, incident reports and activity records.

Perform heavy physical work as needed to assist in the care of clients. Heavy work involves exerting force to lift, carry, push, pull, and otherwise move individuals and objects who may weigh more than 150 pounds and, involves bending, squatting, reaching, and moving about most of the time.
Use proper transfer techniques and/or mechanical lifts.
Demonstrates excellent defensive driving skills, able to operate agency vehicles varying in size from a standard van to a large ADA custom van and a driving record that meets agency policy requirements.
Safeguard and assure proper care and maintenance of clients and Agency property including but not limited to adaptive equipment, lifts, and Agency vehicles.
Effectively communicate orally and in writing.
Promptly communicate any problems or concerns that may arise.
Comprehension and proficiency with all agency software used for program.
Secure and maintain training/certification in CPR/First Aid, CPI, abuse and neglect, bloodborne pathogens, HIPAA, and all other certifications or trainings as required by the Agency.
Use the EHR (Electronic Health Records) system to complete all documentation.

As a Community Support Specialist, you'll provide support and activities to clients through an organized treatment plan designed to ease an individual's immediate and continued adjustment to community living. Key Responsibilities:
Provide community-based mental health services to children, adolescents, and/or adults including assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and intervention implementation.
Collaborate with clients, families, and other stakeholders to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
Utilize strengths-based, evidence-based approaches like Motivational Interviewing, CBT, DBT, etc.
Provide behavioral interventions and evidence-based practices.
Coordinate care with other providers like physicians, schools, organizations.
Maintain accurate client records and documentation.
Participate in staff training and development activities.
Contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
Work collaboratively with team members for coordinated client care.
Develop relationships with stakeholders involved in client's care.
Prepare for and facilitate group therapy sessions.
Knowledge of ACT model for some roles.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, human services field or equivalent experience
Background check, training, valid driver's license, reliable transportation required
Specific skills/knowledge in case management, mental health, substance use, documentation, etc.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in related field or Associate's in Behavioral Health Support
4 years qualifying experience in mental health/substance use services delivery
Combination of education and experience may qualify
