Principal Responsibilities: Daily Assist with personal care: dressing , bathing , tooth brushing , toileting , incontinent care , etc. Documentation: daily contact notes , incident reports , individual program plans , medication sheets , care , shaving , hair washing , nail care , skin care , check weight , and vital signs , medication monitoring , behavior modifications , doctor's visits , and body checks . Recreation: monitoring Consumers while participating in activities , documentation of participation of activities , and recreational planning. Transporting consumers as directed by the residential supervisor. Housekeeping: Training and monitoring in the areas of mopping, sweeping, dusting, laundry (washing, sorting, drying, and folding), vacuuming , making beds , and cleaning the appliances, bathrooms, kitchens. Depending upon the ability of the Consumer, housekeeping tasks may be necessary. Training in independence, citizenship, rights, banking, sex education, vocational, and any other activities of daily living. Adherence to Universal Precautions and Blood borne Pathogen Standards while working with the Consumers. Communicate with Consumers, families, and supervisors in writing, manually, and verbally. Conduct all work tasks with constant attention to safety for self and others. Reporting of hazardous and needed repairs on equipment and building to your supervisor immediately. Other duties as needed. Position Qualifications Education and experience : High school diploma or GED. Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred. Skills and abilities: Ability to use good body mechanics in controlling erratic behavior and participating in physical activities with the Consumer as part of their program. Emotionally secure and able to handle stressful situations. Ability to work with others for integrated programming. Hearing and vision correctable to normal ranges for communication and interaction with the consumers and their families, reading English and responding to emergencies. Ability to work alongside individuals with developmental disabilities. Must be reliable in attendance and timeliness to work schedules. Communication skills, ability to talk clearly and understand English. Mobile with quick response time to emergencies. Knowledge of personal hygiene and personal care. Companionship and Social Engagement Socialization: Encourage and engage the client in conversation and activities to prevent isolation and keep him mentally active. Routine Management: Assist the client in maintaining a consistent daily schedule and routine. Boundary Setting: Ability to set firm, yet kind and respectful boundaries to ensure safety and adherence to the daily plan. Activity Promotion: Encourage light physical activity and engagement (within the client's capabilities). Errands and Appointments Transportation: Safely transport the client to and from medical and physical therapy appointments. Grocery/Supply Management: Handle grocery pick-up, put away items, and ensure household necessities are stocked. Medication Monitoring: Maintain a visual stock of regularly needed non-prescription medications and supplies, and communicate needs to the daughter. Household Support Meal Preparation: Basic, light meal preparation and organizing for the client. Coordination: Coordinate with the family and physical therapists to schedule and manage appointments. Qualifications & Requirements Experience: Required experience working with and supporting individuals experiencing cognitive decline or similar deficits in a private home care setting. Communication Skills: Excellent, proactive, and timely communication skills, with the ability to provide regular updates to the client's daughter. Personal Attributes: Reliable, patient, trustworthy, and skilled at taking initiative. Must be able to help keep the client active and engaged. References: Must provide professional references demonstrating relevant experience. Open to private household or assisted living facility experience.
