Job Summary and Responsibilities
Primary function of position provides ongoing observation either through in person or through Camera/Monitor
technology of patients on suicide prevention watch as a result of identified risk factor and high risk patient fall
risk, and monitors patients for signs of detrition, agitation, impulsiveness and/or attempts to get of bed/chair unassisted,
for pulling on lines, tubes or other medical devices and for vomiting in patients wearing C-pap or Bi-pap masks.
Work also includes establishing/maintaining effective communication channels with bedside direct patient care staff,
reporting potentially dangerous changes in patient behavior, and escalating communications as necessary using
established protocols and best judgment. Position will cover shifts at Saint Joseph London and Saint Joseph Berea
contingent on where the sitter need is.
Essential Functions:
SITTER DUTIES:
-Must maintain visible contact with the patient at all times.
-Promptly communicates all patient requests to assigned staff.
-Observes the client for general physical, emotional, and mental conditions and reports all changes in condition.
-Maintains a clean and safe environment. Documents utensils into and out of the patient room.
-Provide diversional activities as designated by an assigned staff.
-Prepare the room and patient per policy to ensure safety.
REMOTE MONITORING DUTIES:
-Provides ongoing observation through Camera/Monitor technology of patients on suicide prevention watch as a
result of identified risk factors and high risk fall risk patients.
-Ensures pertinent patient data is brought to the attention of appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
-Notifies the appropriate staff nurse immediately if a change in patient activity occurs.
-Receives report for the Sitter/Monitor staff on the previous shift and gives an accurate report to the oncoming
Sitter/Monitor.
-Identifies and immediately reacts appropriately to all life-threatening patient actions.
-Observes and records all patient activity every 15 minutes.
