Job Description
Johnson County Developmental Supports (JCDS) is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Senior DirectSupportProfessional for their residential services division. JCDS serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We focus on individuals' abilities, provide choice driven supports, and advocate alongside people to live and work in our community. We aspire to build a community that promotes, supports, and embraces people of all abilities. DirectSupportProfessionals are responsible for the delivery of services with JCDS. Initial review of candidates will begin December 2, 2025. Periodic review of candidates will continue until the postion is filled.
Provides, assists with, or coaches individuals on personal care needs with limited supervision; provides crisis interventions, including physical intervention and restraint to ensure the safety of individuals; monitors and/or administers medication as prescribed; monitors and documents mental and physical condition of individuals.
Teaches, coaches and provides guidance and support on various skills to enable productive lives of individuals; assists individual and family members to identify strategies or treatment options and participates in the development and modification of plans to regain ability to make independent choices and promote coping skills; develops and maintains a positive and effective relationship with service recipients, families, and other service providers, serving as the main point of contact.
Organizes and participates in meetings related to care coordination; completes documentation for direct services provided to ensure timely and accurate completion.
Transports individuals receiving services to appointments, activities, and/or work.

KNI has 19 homes with directsupport staff assisting with daily living activities in each home throughout four buildings and is located on a large campus, east of the VA hospital in Topeka. About the Position:
Provide direct service and support to the people who live in Unit 2 at KNI so they can achieve personal growth and well-being, realize choice, attain full inclusion, and celebrate their individuality. Provide an environment that promotes a meaningful life.

* Maintain frequent positive interactions with the individuals living at KNI.

MHDDTs who obtain their CPR, CNA and CMA certifications are required to attend continuing education classes to maintain their certification (s). All staff at KNI must stay current with policies, procedures, and protocols, proper lifting techniques, and all other training needed to keep KNI in regulatory compliance. Work locations on campus between homes may be changed as staffing needs change. KNI is funded by the Center of Medicare and Medicaid Services and is subject to requirements bestowed by Federal and State Levels of Government conditions for participation.

Behavioral Support and Skill Development: They help develop and implement behavior plans, teaching self-care skills and promoting independence. This includes encouraging individuals to express their personal goals and choices, fostering self-advocacy.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintaining accurate records of services provided, including progress notes and incident reports, is essential for ensuring continuity of care and compliance with regulations.
Advocacy: DSPs advocate for the rights and needs of individuals with disabilities, helping them access resources and services that promote independence and community inclusion.
Activity supports: attend outings and special events to assist individuals with activities such as photography, crafts, bowling, games, etc.
Required task may include but is not limited to the following:
Grooming and bathing consumers with low mobility
Helping participants eat and take medications
Making sure they have regular meals and proper medication dosages
Monitoring vitals and patient behavior and reporting them to management
Assisting consumers with mobility needs, transferring them from wheelchair to bed
Exercising patients by helping them walk
Transporting consumers to activities in the community
Assisting consumers with daily tasks
Daily Scheduling: Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
