What Does A Director Of Dance Do At Colorado State University

* Provides artistic and administrative leadership in undergraduate dance division through outstanding teaching, creative artistry and engaged scholarship, and service.
* Teaches courses in dance technique, pedagogy/dance education, history/aesthetics, and dance science/somatic related areas.
* Teaches other dance division courses depending on expertise and as needed.
* Choreographs, stages, and serves as rehearsal and/or artistic director for dance works for the dance division on a rotating basis.
* Evaluates and advises students including choreography and performance for dance concerts/productions.
* Serves on the School of SMTD executive committee and participates in SMTD, College of Liberal Arts, and University affairs, programs, activities and committees.
* Collaborates with faculty and staff in numerous areas including curriculum development and revision, strategic planning, accreditation, advancement, and community dance arts integration and engagement.
* Contributes to student recruitment, auditions, adjudications, and advising.
* Participates in state, national, and international conferences and symposiums.
* Performs other duties as assigned.

* Terminal degree in dance or dance education
* Professional creative/scholarly accomplishment and expertise in the area of dance pedagogy/education
* Professional creative/scholarly accomplishment in one of the following: dance history/aesthetics, dance science/somatics, choreography, performance, and concert direction and production.
* Strong classical and contemporary dance knowledge along with a willingness to embrace and further develop the dance division curriculum and course offerings
* Excellent communication skills
* Ability to advance SMTD and university commitment to diversity and inclusion through relevant programs, goals and activities
* Evidence of successful teaching at the undergraduate level.
* Preferred Job Qualifications
* Demonstrated university dance administration and collaborative leadership experience including curricular development, accreditation and program review, advancement and donor development, strategic and budget planning, community engagement, and recruitment/retention of students, faculty, and staff
* Experience with the curriculum of teacher preparation programs for state level K
* dance education
* Experience with accreditation through the National Association of Schools of Dance (NASD).
