As a member of the Office of the Provost the Director of Instructional Technology & Design reports to the Associate Provost and serves as the lead individual for improving instruction using technology-based tools. The Director of Instructional Technology & Design also supervises university employees, student workers, and contract employees to provide distance education, classroom, teaching and learning, and presentation technology support.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

License and Certification Qualifications: Must hold or be eligible for a valid Georgia Educator's Certificate in Educational Leadership and/or Support Personnel License issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.
Education Qualifications: Master's degree in related field required. Specialist or doctorate degree in related field preferred.
Experience Qualifications: Five years of experience at the local school or district level, with at least two years of successful experience in an instructional leadership role required. Experience with supervision of staff preferred.
Skills Qualifications: Strong leadership skills; in depth knowledge of effective instructional practices; understanding of district's Academic Knowledge and Skills; ability to develop, lead, and supervise multi-faceted projects to timely and effective completion; collaborative skills to coordinate processes with multiple program offices; strong communication skills with high profile constituents and audiences; ability to work successfully with colleagues including district and school-based personnel, vendor representatives, and community members; in depth knowledge of instructional technology; competency in budget projection and management; high level of proficiency in use of digital tools and resources for productivity and instruction.
Primary Responsibilities: Lead the curriculum development process and the identification, selection, and implementation of instructional resources for all curriculum areas in Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS).
1. Oversee the development and review ofthe Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS).
a. Coordinate and lead the annual review and revision processes for the AKS, maintaining cohesiveness across program areas and course/grade levelsin accordance with the district's philosophy and vision for curriculum.
b. Plan and institute the annual work of the GEMS Oversight Committee.
c. Facilitate development and distribution of AKS support materials.
d. Coordinate and facilitate across program offices the development of AKS for new courses.
e. Maintain the district's official course matrix for active and inactivecourse numbers K-12, assuring that active course numbers are aligned withthe state course file.
2. Lead the processes for identification, selection and implementationof resources to support instruction of the AKS K-12.
a. Maintain knowledge of, evaluate, and communicate current research andtrends in instructional resources and distribution practices within K12education.
b. Set the vision for a balanced approach to print and digital resources,future-casting to assure that the district is transitioning as appropriateto next-generation resources.
c. Develop long-term and short-term project plans and projections for acycle of core materials/resources review and procurement.
d. Collaborate with program area offices to lead and manage annual corematerials procurement processes, assuring adherence to the district's policiesand the philosophy and vision for instruction of the AKS.
e. Assure a wide scope of stakeholder input in the resource/materials selectionprocess.
f. Collaborate with program area offices to provide effective professionallearning opportunities for instructional staff at the school and districtlevels for exemplary implementation of instructional resources/core materials.
g. Lead and coordinate with Information Management and Technology (IMT)and eCLASS staff to ensure GCPS technical requirements are met for digitalinstructional resources.
3. Oversee purchase and distribution of core materials/resourcesand some supplemental materials/resources.
a. Develop and monitor district budget to maximize the procurement andadequate inventory of core materials/resources .
b. Oversee GCPS inventory processes to maximize availability of instructionalresources within budget guidelines.
c. Support local school points of contact for effective instructional resourcesbarcoded and non-barcoded inventory and distribution of resources.
d. Coordinate with IMT and Facilities and Operations staff to maximizeuse of inventory processes and tools (e.g., Textbook Manager).
e. Represent GCPS's best interests in the development, review, and negotiationof GCPS instructional resources contracts with the purchasing office andvendors.
4. Collaborate with the curriculum department in support of a coherentvision for teaching and learning throughout the district.
a. Lead and coordinate the promotion, development, and facilitation oftransformational instructional practices with the use of district-providedinstructional resources such as eCLASS C&I, SAFARI Montage, samplecourse pages, and curriculum guides.
5. Develop and manage the program area's annual operating budget in afiscally responsible manner that supports the initiatives, priorities andgoals of the department, division and district.
6. Lead a high-performing, growth oriented-team in support of the policies,procedures, initiatives, priorities and goals of the department, divisionand district.
7. Perform other duties as assigned.
