Position Requirements

  • At least 3 years of administrative experience in early childhood education or related field.

Physical Requirements
  • Lifting, pushing and pulling up to 35 pounds using proper body mechanics and/or available equipment as physically required—including but not limited to helping children on and off diapering table; lifting children who may need comforting, aren’t feeling well, moving supplies and classroom furniture etc.
  • Physical stamina – must be able to bend, kneel, squat and sit on the floor, etc. as required to lead and participate in child related activities, to perform cleaning tasks and to maintain a safe learning environment.
  • Must be able to stand, walk around and remain active at least 60% of work shift as required for child and office related activities. Must be able to stand for 45 minutes consecutively while supervising children on the playground.
  • Work is mainly performed in a weather controlled, air conditioned/heated facility with some time spent outdoors supervising children on the playground and during field trips. Facility is well lit and has typical preschool environment obstacles, such as running children, small sized furniture, toys, cubbies, etc.

Report directly to the Executive Director of Early Education and Youth Programs.

Supervise Lead Teachers, Assistant Teachers, Office Staff, Substitutes and Volunteers.

Preschool Director Required Skills:

Proven Director experience at an early childhood facility with multiple classrooms and programs, preferrably in TN
Minimum of 3 to 5 years of hands-on childcare teaching experience
Compliance with state licensing standards at a director level, including but not limited to criminal background screening and fingerprinting
Minimum requirement of education/experience within one of the following:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university combined with 6+ months of experience in the group care of children or
Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education or
Associate degree or equivalent combined with 1+ year in a supervisory position and 2+ years of experience in the group care of children
Comprehensive knowledge of national and state education standards, licensing requirements and procedures, and fire, health, and OSHA regulations
Strong knowledge of USDA Nutritional Standards for Schools

The Preschool Director ensures successful implementation of approved preschool curriculum by providing and maintaining quality educational programs
