The Director, Lab Quality and Compliance oversees accreditation, quality, compliance, educational and other operational activities of Legacy Lab Services in Oregon and Washington.

Legacy Laboratory Services is an independent regional reference laboratory based in Portland. It offers one of the most extensive medical testing services in the region as well as sophisticated connectivity solutions for both laboratory information systems and electronic medical records. Services are wide, specific and broad and range from basic chemistry and hematology testing up to and including esoteric chemistry, molecular diagnostics, medical toxicology, cytogenetics and more.



Responsibilities

Assures all sections with Legacy Lab services are operated in compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements, to include CLIA, CAP, AABB, FDA, JCAHO, OHA, WSHA as well as administrative and technical guidelines.

Oversees the teams that lead laboratory accreditation/re-accreditation process, internal and external laboratory inspections, risk assessments, staff competency assessment, laboratory test development, laboratory student training, laboratory volunteer programs, laboratory safety and compliance related activities of clinical laboratory, anatomic pathology, transfusion services, point of care, lab information system and billing.

Serves as the leader in advanced quality planning process by leading the team that creates and maintains policies, objectives, management tools and approaches to analytical issues, root cause analysis and reporting process within each department.

Monitors quality outcomes and recommends improvements in performance relative to safety issues.

Reviews all service agreements, vendor contracts, MOU, etc. related to Legacy Lab services to ensure regulatory standards are met and compliance risks are mitigated.

Develops capital equipment budget and utilizes resources efficiently and effectively to meet departmental operations budget, seeking ways to reduce expenses without reducing quality of services and implements.

Maintains sufficient level of appropriate staffing and ensures the orientation, training, education, and competency of all personnel who provide patient care under the laboratory services.

Maintains positive interpersonal relationships with employees and all constituencies.

Recommends space and other resources needed by the department



Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Sciences required. Master's degree (MBA, MHA, MS, etc.) required.

Experience:

Minimum three years of direct lab quality, accreditation and compliance oversight is required. Minimum three years of management experience with a strong focus on regulatory inspection experience is highly preferred.

Skills:

Demonstrated knowledge of standards of all regulatory agencies with jurisdiction over Legacy Laboratory Services. Knowledge of laboratory operational issues and regulatory compliance. Leadership ability to work throughout the system to accomplish the objectives of the organization. Organizational skills both to function independently and to work closely with other professionals using a team approach. Judgment skills to make appropriate decisions. Ability to handle multiple demands and to respond rapidly to changing priorities. Strong attention to detail. Demonstrated problem-solving, research, analytical, presentation, facilitation, organizational, consultation and training skills. Effective verbal and written communication skills.
