In this newly created position, the Engineering Services Director will organize all of the Engineering applications and processes to take Symbotic to the next level. This includes PLM, CAD tools, and process standardization and enforcement along with overall responsibility for engineering change management. You'll bring your vision and experience to drive our systems the best way, interacting with our strategic manufacturing partners and internal stakeholders.

In this role you will:

• Oversee and drive revision and development of all engineering standards including, but not limited to, documentation standards, CAD processes, PLM, and Change Management.
• Oversee external technical publications team for instructions, training materials, and other customer facing documentation needs.
• Oversee CAD support team for Solidworks , AutoCAD Mechanical and Electrical, Ansys, and RevIT .
• Lead execution of new PLM system in conjunction with ERP development team.

What You'll Need:

• Experience in PLM system management and process development
• SAP or Oracle strongly preferred
• Establishment of a new PLM or transferring PLM system experience is strongly preferred
• Proficiency in one or more of the primary CAD/CAE tools ( Solidworks , AutoCAD, RevIT , Ansys)
• Strong ECN and document control expertise
• At least 5 years in a people management capacity, overseeing first line managers strongly preferred.

What we are looking for

• 5+ years of relevant software development experience
• 3+ years of relevant engineering leadership experience
• Have demonstrated a track record of building high-quality products and managing high-performing teams
• Have deep understanding of how to build scalable distributed and complex systems
• Have strong recruiting skills, with a track record of hiring new team members who are extremely effective over the long term

As the Director of Engineering Services, you'll be part of a fast growing, highly innovative SaaS business - driving results in several advanced areas: Software Architecture, AWS cloud hosting, and DevOps best practices.

The Director of Engineering Services is a highly influential, multi-disciplined technology leader who oversees our Cloud Operations, DevOps, and Architecture teams and best practices. In this three-fold role, the Director will lead teams chartered with managing all AWS hosting aspects of our SaaS product suite, maturing our Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CICD) pipelines, and leading our “NextGeneration” Platform transformation program - which includes full-stack architectural changes focused on: scale and performance, user experience, zero-downtime, cost effectiveness, and real-time data reporting.

The ideal candidate is highly collaborative, technical, process minded, with an understanding of: modern software design patterns, core AWS capabilities, cloud hosting standards, and DevOps best practices. You will work across department lines to ensure our customers always come first. Culturally, you have a high sense of ownership, and a passion for what is possible. What You Will Do
Manage our Software Architects, design best practices, own our long-term Architectural vision
Provide operational direction for Cloud Operations around security, scalability, provisioning, and deployments
Drive maturity with monitoring our applications, services, and infrastructure for both Uptime & APDEX
Work with both Development and Operations team to successfully launch new features and services using containers and serverless technologies
Establish, measure, and manage Cloud Operations service level agreements and objectives and improve related processes
Establish cloud hosting and database governance guidelines, and improve change management processes to reduce risk
Partner with cross-departmental leaders to understand needs and pain-points and alignment of cross-functional goals
Serve as an escalation point for urgent services and engineering needs
Manage our DevOps (CICD) roadmap for each supported application and continue to reach new levels of continuous testing and short, iterative release cycles
Support engineering teams by prioritizing and developing tools and frameworks that form a paved road for fast, efficient delivery
Represent the CloudOps and DevOps interest on the Architecture Council, advocating for an architecture that leverages cloud-native services, supports high-availability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness
Own global hosting security and compliance, in partnership with the Director of Engineering Delivery, and our Application Architects
Identify and prioritize key technical initiatives each quarter as needed
Understand Cloud Engineer, DevOps Engineer, and Software Architect career and skill paths, seek out and provide team members impactful training and initiatives to elevate their capabilities

Skills and Competencies
5 or more years of proven experience managing Cloud Operations or DevOps teams of 10 or more (SaaS Product experience strongly preferred)
Prior experience as a Senior Software Engineer or Architect
Experience hiring & mentoring managers, and growing technical teams
Experience scaling hosting infrastructure for growing SaaS business
Expertise withbuilding automated CICD pipelines with commercial and open-source tools
Experience with Configuration Management (CM) solutions such as Ansible, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform
Experience with advanced monitoring solutions like DataDog
Experience with penetration testing, vulnerability scans, and static analysis tools or services is preferred
Technical experience with modern development in AWS highly valued:
Python scripting
Unit testing and test automation
Serverless technologies and auto-scaling
Trunk-Based-Development & Feature Flags
Microservices Architecture
AWS Well Architected Framework
Relational & Columnar database technologies (such as SQL, PostgreSQL, or Snowflake)
Prior experience establishing cloud hosting metrics, to include Availability, Reliability, Performance, and Incident SLAs
A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science preferred or equivalent education, AWS certifications, and experience
