    Assistant Director of Nursing/Staff Educator
    for our Skilled Nursing Facility in the heart of New York City. The i deal candidate will have previous experience in an LTC setting with training and leading a clinical staff.


    DUTIES:
    • Leads staff development programs; by providing instruction designed in safety, body mechanics, infection control, hazardous infectious materials, etc. to meet NYSDOH & other regulatory mandates
    • Maintains educational practices by coaching, counseling, and may participate in disciplinary process; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results
    • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
    • Records and documents educational activity, attendance, and responses
    • Report on active projects, reactions, and progress daily, weekly and monthly.
    • Participation in QAPI monthly meetings and projects
    • Assist Director of Nursing in planning, coordinating, and implementing staff programs and services to ensure a well-educated staff.
    • Maintain appropriate records and assist in data collection for assessment and evaluation purposes
    • Consults with and keeps Director of Nursing informed as appropriate or required
    • Maintains good inter and intradepartmental relationships, interacting effectively with all internal and external customers
    • Maintains close contact with employees off work, on disability, or workman's compensation, and their physicians to facilitate their earliest possible return to work
    • Reviews incident reports, OSHA reports, involving employees injured at work & coordinates education, loss prevention program with our safety program

    REQUIREMENTS:
    • Inter-personal, organizational, and problem-solving skills are required
    • Must have excellent communication skills
    • Minimum 3 years' experience as a Nurse Educator in Long Term Care preferred but not required.
    • Previous experience working in a long-term care setting
    • Demonstrated ability to creatively educate and coach
    • CPR certification required, CPR trainer certified or willing to become a trainer.
    • Training in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices
    • Must possess the ability to interact, educate, coach, and communicate with a wide cross-section of individuals in a courteous, tactful and effective manner
    • Must possess the highest ethical standards with respect to discretion and regard for confidentiality

    Under the direction and supervision of the Administrator and through consultation and cooperation with the Director of Nurses, the Director of Staff Development is responsible for planning, implementation, direction and evaluation of the facility's educational programs for all employees and quality assurance and improvement in the facility.
    Director of Staff Development QUALIFICATIONS
    • A graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.
    • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse in the state in which practicing.
    • Has a minimum of two years experience as a Licensed Nurse in supervision and providing care in a
    long-term care facility.
    • Has a 24-hours continuing education course in planning, implementing and evaluating educational
    programs in nursing.
    • Possess mental and physical health.
    • Ability to read, write and speak the English language.
    Director of Staff Development GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ORIENTATION

    • Male residents are shaved during their a.m. care, and female residents are shaved whenever facial
    hair is evident.
    • Checked and changed routinely and never left with wet diapers, whether in a wheelchair or bed.
    • Fingernails kept clean and trimmed.
    • Never having dried eye secretions crusted in their eyes.
    • Having privacy curtains drawn at all times while rendering nursing care.
    • Having call lights answered promptly and/or kept within reach at all times.
    • Having all food served appropriately, i.e. meat cut, ice cream lids off, etc. Feeder trays are never
    to be left in the carts; they are to be obtained immediately from the kitchen when resident is
    ready to be fed.
    • Having diet trays checked and Aides assisted in determining percentages.
    • Restraints applied appropriately and released every two (2) hours as ordered.
    Check CNA documentation as per facility policy and provide in-service class as needed.
    Provide annual proficiency evaluations on nurse assistants while supervising nursing skills and procedures as they relate to the Nurse Assistant's duties.
    Provide on-going in-services and supervision of Infection Control Policies (standard precautions, hand washing, MRSA, VRE and isolation techniques).
    Make monthly schedule and daily assignments for all CNA's.
    Insure that performance evaluations on all employees are done three (3) months after employment and yearly thereafter.
    Interview and hire nursing assistants.
    Insure that all employee files are current::

    Act as Infection Control Coordinator.
