POSITION OVERVIEW:
Assist with the strategy, development, and management of multifaceted policy initiatives focused on reducing excessive and unfair litigation through an aggressive engagement plan that impacts the public, key opinion leaders, and public officials. While primarily federally focused, the scope may include work at the state level, as well work on additional special projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Help develop, lead, and execute ILR's federal program, including arbitration, class action reform, bankruptcy, class actions, multidistrict litigation, overenforcement, the False Claims Act, securities litigation, and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.
+ Articulate ILR's message to allied groups and interested parties through a variety of forums, including panels, speeches, and Chamber meetings.
+ Engage in advocacy and lobbying efforts to support ILR federal and state programs, including with legislatures and agencies.
+ Help oversee coalitions, composed of companies, trade associations, and other allies, related to federal legal reform policy.
+ Regularly communicate with ILR and coalition members about legislative activity and information pertinent to their movement.
+ Draft Chamber and coalition letters.
+ Create memoranda on legislative activities for executives.
+ Assist with the program planning process, including setting goals, conducting fundraising, and implementing strategy.
+ Represent ILR at Chamber meetings, hearings, and conferences.
REQUIREMENTS:
+ J.D. and 6+ years' experience in federal government affairs.
+ Ability to understand complex and changing political and issue environments.

Reporting directly to the Provost, the Director of Special Projects in the Provost's Office will provide operational and administrative support to the Provost, Office of the President and SVP of Finance and Administration/Dean of Academic Initiatives and Strategic Innovation. The Director leads special projects and serves as the "point person" for specific initiatives to advance the mission of Academic Affairs and the Graduate Center.

The duties and responsibilities of the position will include, but are not limited to:
* Partners with the Provost and Senior Vice President in planning and delivering high priority projects in a professional manner;
* Supports the shared governance committees housed within the office of Academic Affairs, including but not limited to: Grad Council, the Structure Committee and Committee on Committees;
* Works collaboratively on the Graduate Center strategic plan: coordinates working groups, reviews draft reports, and provides supporting documentation;
* Document processes and automate procedures to ensure efficient operations;
* Research, analyze, and interpret information to advance special projects that have a substantial impact on the College's operations;
* Provides support to ad hoc Presidential advisory committees;
* Provides tactical guidance in the planning, execution, and management of academic innovation initiatives;
* Establish strategic objectives and goals for initiatives; formulate performance metrics and milestones to gauge initiatives' progress; recommend and execute corrective actions to drive initiatives;
* Prepare and present information in forums suitable to target audiences to promote initiatives and solicit feedback and buy-in from key stakeholders; create and facilitate focus groups;
* Identify untapped resources and/or opportunities to further GC's mission; tactically leverage talent and resources in a cost-effective manner to promote GC brand;
* May manage and oversee support staff within the Provost's office;
* Handles requests for information from colleagues and others internal and external to the college;
* Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience required.
