The Dispatcher handles communications between home office, management, shipping agents, ships, pilots, and boat crews, ensuring that all are properly informed of shipping activity.
Responsibilities:
1. Operates electronic communication systems and equipment including two-way radios, telephone systems, fax machines, various computers and software programs, and cellular telephones.
2. Communicates and interfaces with management, shipping agents, and reporting agencies to gather information and schedules for shipping activity. Works with Personnel Department to coordinate crew activities.
3. Maintaining communications with agents, ships, pilots, terminals and all boat crews necessary to complete ship movements, barge loading and discharging. Ensures pilots are informed about their ships and schedules.
4. Organize and dispatch proper tugs and pilots needed for each job. Evaluate available equipment and crews in light of job requirements and assign tugs and crews accordingly.
5. Acts as company representative and receives and processes communications and orders from the U.S. Coast Guard relating to holds, boarding activity, vessel searches, oil spills and accidents.
6. Oversee services performed by tug/barge crews and take appropriate measures to ensure that the work was performed in an efficient and professional manner.
7. Update and monitor database system with shipping and pilot activity.
8. Organizes and documents activities by completing forms, reports, logs, and records; will also complete all materials used for billing purposes and sales information.
9. Keeps systems and equipment functioning properly by following operations instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
10. Project a positive image to peers and subordinates; to the customers we serve; to the industry in which we participate; and the community in which we live by producing a cost-efficient, quality service in a safe environment.
* Must live within commuting distance of Philadelphia.

A Dispatcher, under the supervision of a manager, is responsible for communicating with drivers, school district personnel and parents for daily routes, trips and extra-curricular activities of students for our clients. The Dispatcher has significant, daily contact with all levels of Company personnel and as necessary. This position requires considerable judgment, diplomacy and discretion and the ability to communicate clearly. The Dispatcher deals regularly with sensitive and/or confidential information and therefore must exercise extreme care in maintaining confidentiality and privacy.
Duties/Responsibilities:
* Communicating with schools, parents, drivers and aides;
* Answer telephone inquiries and communicate on two-way radio
* Assist manager with ensuring employees report to work as scheduled and all vehicles are staffed for the day; assigns substitute drivers, as needed; plans, schedules and assigns drivers for special transportation, including field trips, athletic events, public charters etc. using software and maps;
* Observe and track route timing; Assist in developing routes, busloads, bus stops and schedules when necessary
* Read and follow established School District contracts
* Report concerns, violations or issues to the Operations Manager or Supervisor
* Keep records and submit reports, including all documentation for complaints, accidents, routing changes, etc., maintenance records of mileage, gas consumption, and other related data;
* Ensure employees perform the required daily vehicle inspection and buses are cleaned daily as required by law.
* Assist the shop in scheduling maintenance and repair of vehicles, coding invoices and record keeping
* May handle back up driver duties or perform miscellaneous clerical/office duties while buses are in route.
* Be on-call for emergencies and weekends as needed;
* Work closely with Operations, Safety, Training and Fleet Maintenance departments
* Follow company policies regarding pupil/client management and relations with parents, teachers, guardians, and the public in general
* Assist manager with monthly billing, payroll, account receivables, account payables and month end requirements
* May assist manager in implementing driver recruitment programs to ensure coverage of daily home to school routes and sufficient substitute personnel
* May assist manager in disciplinary matters and overseeing yearly road test evaluations
* May assist manager in ensuring all drivers complete all necessary job related training and planning driver safety meetings
* Responsible for carrying out all STA policies and State & Federal applicable regulation.

* Communicating with schools regarding calendars, complaints, bus incidents
* Assist manager in development of charter business during non-school days and summer months

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):
Essential Duties:
* Serve as a designated Campus Security Authority (CSA) in compliance with the Clery Act.
* Receive, prioritize, and dispatch emergency and non-emergency calls for service.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education/training and experience required):

CALEA serves as the “International Gold Standard for Public Safety Agencies” and oversees a rigorous accreditation process. Responsibilities
The dispatchers receive calls, monitor several radio frequencies and monitor intrusion and fire alarms in a fast, courteous, accurate and efficient manner. After receiving a call the dispatcher must establish the nature and location of call(s), determine its priority, and dispatch the appropriate patrol unit, university support team and/or emergency services as necessary.
Dispatchers maintain contact with all units in service by accurately tracking, monitoring, and documenting officer activities during their shift. They operate Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) console equipped with multiple computer terminals, including 911 call handling, geographic information system (GIS) mapping, camera systems and a radio console with multiple radio channels to dispatch public safety.
The dispatcher must be familiar with operations and call transfer protocols of the two Mercer County Emergency Services Support Agencies, both Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Dispatch and The County Emergency Services Support Agencies of the contiguous County's Emergency Service Dispatch, Middlesex County.
The Communications Center operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week and responds to over 100,000 calls for service and CAD dispatches per year and more than 30,000 emergency and non-emergency phone calls annually. In addition, they provide assistance to walk-up customers and provide general University information about the campus.
