Schedule

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* Receive, evaluate, and process emergency and non-emergency calls for service across Douglas and Elbert Counties
* Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and EMS units in accordance with established protocols
* Provide Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) instructions, including CPR and other lifesaving guidance
* Monitor unit status, ensure responder safety, and maintain situational awareness of incidents
* Operate Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD), radio, and multiple technology systems simultaneously
* Accurately document call information and maintain detailed records
* Provide emergency communications on scene of critical incidents using the agency's Incident Dispatch Vehicle (IDV)
* Perform other related duties as assigned

Education, Experience, and Minimum Requirements
* High school diploma or GED
* This is a shift position requiring the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays in a closed, secure environment

Duties

Selection Process
The selection process consists of a pre-employment on-line exam, an oral interview, background check, medical and psychological investigation. Candidates who successfully complete the final phase are offered employment with the Lincoln Police Department Emergency Communications Center.

The Public Safety Dispatcher serves as a highly skilled communications professional within the Lake County Emergency Communications Center. Under the general supervision of the Communications Supervisor and direction of the Lake County E911 Authority Board, the dispatcher provides essential emergency and non-emergency communications support to the public, law enforcement, fire services, EMS, and various partner agencies.
Dispatchers must use sound judgment, critical decision-making skills, and adhere to all directives, policies, procedures, and legal requirements. This role requires the ability to remain calm and effective under intense pressure, communicate clearly with distressed or emotional callers, and anticipate the needs of first responders. Dispatchers may work independently in the communications center and must be able to function within a structured chain of command.
