Must be able to perform a variety of recording-keeping, filing, indexing, and other general clerical work with attention to detail and accuracy. Must accurately maintain a variety of data entry documentation relating to public safety activities, incidents, and safety reports. Must be able to accurately type 35WPM while operating the computer-aided dispatch system to update activities. Maintain detailed logs of reported assistance, visitors to the front counter, and other pertinent information as assigned. Maintain a detailed working knowledge of all university geography and landmarks Monitor surveillance cameras. Check the functional operations of all surveillance cameras at least once per shift. Monitor mobile security alarm systems along with any in-house file alarm systems. Monitor GPS tracking of Public Safety vehicles as needed for emergency situations. Training and Development Will be required to participate in training programs and continuing education related to Public Safety Dispatch Operations, emergency response, and university policies, so as to stay informed of changes in dispatch procedures, emergency communication protocols, system, and program updates. This position requires employee to be available during on-call shifts. This position works a 4/10 rotating schedule with shifts working but not limited to: 5:30am - 4:00pm 9:30am - 8:00pm 3:30pm - 2:00am 7:30pm - 6:00am

* Runs warrant checks on subjects, registration checks on vehicles, property checks and student enrollment status using teletype and computer.
* Coordinate radio communication with security officers, maintenance and district personnel.
* Prepare files, checks routes, files reports, department documents and records, prepares and maintains periodical operational reports and records including statistical data.
* Maintain various departmental files including criminal records and confidential files.

The Police Department's Communications Center is comprised of 17 Public Safety Dispatchers and three (3) Public Safety Dispatch Supervisors. Education:
* High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Licenses/Certifications:
* Typing certificate with a minimum typing speed of 40 net words per minute, with no more than 10 errors, dated no earlier than one year from application date.
* Possession of certificate verifying successful completion of a P.O.S.T. Basic Dispatch Academy is highly desirable (required for part-time/on-call staff).
Experience:
* One year of current full-time experience operating a public safety Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system; or have been employed as a full-time, non-probationary Public Safety Dispatcher with eligibility for re-hire within one year of the application.
* Experience with SunGard/OSSI CAD system (desirable).
Knowledge of:
* Related office methods and procedures, record keeping system, forms, correspondence, reports, and other materials common to operation of a Police department.

Special Requirements
* Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of application.

* Report immediately to work for emergency coverage and to other facilities than the Police Department.
* Successfully pass a practical test (may be required).
