Position Overview
Patiently explains the service options available for a potential client (including information on transportation procedures): takes requests for transportation services from eligible clients and members of the general public (including explaining how clients can use the system); assists passengers with trip planning; handles scheduling, confirmation, and cancellation of trips; vehicles to shifts; maintains two-way communication with drivers throughout the day, and handles other clerical duties as assigned by the Road Supervisors, Director of Operations, Operations Manager or Executive Director.
Oversee drivers and their shifts to ensure compliance with routes, schedules and policies. Provide assistance with mechanical, routing or emergency situations. Prepare forms, maintain records, and files.
Work is characterized by the variety, complexity, and frequent public contact associated with the position. Considerable tact and courtesy are required as well as judgment in selecting and applying standard procedures and practices to specific tasks. Work is performed under general supervision and is evaluated by observation, conference, and the overall effectiveness and accuracy of duties performed.
Essential Job Functions
Take phone requests for transportation services from customers.
Assist customers with trip planning and scheduling based on: a) their physical condition, b) the unique features of the route system (including off-route scheduling) and Dial-A-Ride and c) detailed working knowledge of the location of streets, roads, and highways and the geographical conditions of the service area.
Assess the clients needs and handles scheduling, confirmation, and cancellation of trips. Ensures scheduled routing makes sense in regards to timing and geographical direction.
Meet and/or exceed ETD customer service and dispatching standards and assist the Operations Manager to respond to road call emergencies and vehicle accidents; assist in meeting ETDs vehicle emergency service standards. Operate the buses in service in an emergency situation.
Communicate with drivers as necessary.
In conjunction with the Lead Dispatcher, insure that vehicle service hour records (including driver manifest reports and logs) are accurate and up to date.
Prepare client intake forms and files, trip records and complaints/suggestion files.
Type necessary reports, forms, and correspondence as needed.
Manage the direct collection of all fares and insure that the cash collection and reconciliation meets the standards established by the District.
Take and successfully pass a drug test for pre-employment, as well as at random, reasonable suspicion, and post accident drug and alcohol tests as deemed appropriate by the Districts current approved drug testing policy.
Monitor work environment for safety standards and potential hazards. Notify DER of need for a reasonable suspicion drug test. Notify Operations manager of known or observed safety or policy violations.
Requirements

**Essential Functions:**
+ Scheduling drivers to make freight delivery or collect shipments and packages
+ Communicating with customers and vendors about freight details, pickup and drop-off times, and special requests
+ Planning predetermined routes for drivers
+ Identifying traffic problems and issues and creating appropriate corrective action plans to achieve desirable results on time.
+ Preparing general dispatch documents for management, as well as pulling any documents that employees, customers, or vendors will need
+ Maintain a record of all dispatch calls, driver routes, route changes, as well as delivery and pick-up times
+ Monitoring truck repairs and maintenance schedules
+ Logging vendor complaints or concerns
+ Answering phone calls from vendors, customers, and management and helping them as needed.
+ Other duties as requested

**Pay Range:**

Since 1975, Northwest has built upon our core values of professionalism, teamwork, integrity, reliability, respect, and accountability to provide 9-1-1 communications and Dispatch services to multiple municipalities throughout CT. We are the Primary 9-1-1 answering point for nine (9) cities/towns, and we currently provide Public Safety Dispatch services to thirteen (13) EMS Agencies, eleven (11) Fire Departments, one (1) Regional ALS Fly Car System, and two (2) Law Enforcement Agencies. We also coordinate Ambulance-to-Hospital communications (CMED) to twenty-eight (28) cities and towns and six (6) area Hospitals.
About the Position of Public Safety Call Taker:
As a member of our team, you will be tasked to:
Answer incoming routine and 911 phone calls
Document and maintain detailed and accurate records of all calls, ensuring essential information is properly recorded in Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system
Deliver clear and accurate life safety and pre-arrival instructions to callers in potentially critical situations, ensuring effective guidance and support until emergency services arrive
Maintain and project a professional attitude by remaining calm, courteous, and respectful with members of the public and partner agencies while working effectively under pressure
Job Requirements:
Proficient computer skills with the ability to quickly learn and navigate dispatching software, including typing at a minimum net speed of 35 words per minute
High School Diploma or equivalent
Eligibility to work in the United States
Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey information clearly and effectively
Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think and react to dynamic situations
Availability to work in varying shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
Highly dependable in consistently reporting for work on-time and as scheduled; available for mandatory overtime when required
