About American Medical Response - St. Louis Emergency Communications:
The AMR St. Louis Emergency Communications Center is one of the largest private EMD Communications Centers in the country serving multiple states in the midwest. Call volume includes interfacility requests from hospitals and nursing homes as well as emergency requests from private callers and 911 municipalities. We serve as a secondary public safety answering point to various 911 agencies. Employees are frequently required to triage medical calls and provide pre-arrival instructions to patients.
What is an Emergency Medical Dispatcher?
An Emergency Medical Dispatcher is an emergency medical professional who is responsible for receiving, recording, and managing requests for ambulance assistance. The Emergency Medical Dispatcher will process requests to transport medically ill and traumatically injured patients in emergency and non-emergency situations. The Emergency Medical Dispatcher must quickly and accurately collect all necessary information to deploy appropriate emergency resources.
About the Program:
Eligible candidates will be hired on as a full-time employee and compensated for all completed training time. Candidates will complete all classroom training and live training as scheduled.
This training includes scenario-based skill development designed to prepare them for work in the Communications Center. The Communications Academy provides the internationally recognized Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD)training and certification, CPR certification, and training on all necessary non-emergency intake skills and standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Understands and adequately implements the concepts of Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) as published in Principles of Emergency Medical Dispatch (and as customized by AMR) as a minimum standard of care
Allocates EMS resources based on approved protocols and established processes
Maintain a high level of expertise in the use of the computer aided dispatching (CAD) system
Responsible for complete and accurate data entry for all service requests
Knowledge of Company and Departmental policies, operating procedures, and protocols
Participate in and complete all continuing education as outlined by the department
Must be able to function effectively in a potentially stressful environment
Possess excellent written and verbal skills essential for effective communication with patients, medical personnel, co-workers, and clients.
Ability to utilize maps to identify locations as it relates to transport requests and crew safety
Monitor multiple radio channels to maintain contact with local agencies
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks while demonstrating a high level of professionalism
Must maintain a high-level of customer service while also communicating effectively with persons in difficult, life-threatening and other emergency situations
Ability to understand basic computer applications
Must be able to work weekends and holidays on scheduled rotation

An employee in this job class is responsible for performing work of marked difficulty processing emergency and non-emergency calls received via radio and telephone. Work is performed under general supervision of a supervisory staff that includes commissioned and professional staff personnel. Work involves the dispatching of police units for the St. Louis County Police Department, and its municipal contracted agencies, by radio in response to requests for service according to predetermined priorities, providing confidential criminal history data through a computer system, maintaining status and location of mobile units through multiple mapping systems, answering and routing telephone calls of high and low priority nature, and responding to inquiries and complaints on non-emergency telephone lines. Work is reviewed for timeliness of response, appropriateness of response and adherence to established procedures and priorities. This position is subject to mandatory overtime being required during periods of inclement weather, or critical incidents of a significant nature, to ensure public safety.
An additional 7% Shift Differential pay for employees who work Midnight shift.
INCENTIVES:The St. Louis County Police Department offers tuition reimbursement and education incentives for employees who possess a degree of higher education from an accredited institution. They shall receive the following addition to their base rate of pay:

Public Safety Dispatcher REPORTS TO: Shift Supervisor Under the direction of the Shift Supervisor, responsible for receiving and dispatching calls for emergency and non-emergency services involving Police, Fire and EMS needs in the ECDC member cities. * Shall answer calls for emergencies (telephone or radio) in a courteous manner;

JOB SUMMARY
This is a non-management position within the Public Safety Communications Center of the Marion Police Department. A Communications Operator serves the community by answering emergency and routine calls via phone, radio, or other devices and gathers essential information from callers; enters the call information into the computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system and dispatches the appropriate first responders to the scene as needed. The operator provides dispatch and communication support services for police, fire, EMS, and can require the coordination of other related service agencies during joint events. Work is performed in accordance with federal and state laws as well as departmental regulations, policies, and routines. This position has 3 shifts: Day Shift - 6 am - 2 pm; Evening Shift - 2 pm - 10 pm; and Overnight Shift 10 pm - 6 am. Shifts are bid on every 6 months by seniority with all new hires working evening and overnight shifts, including weekends and holidays.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/WORK PERFORMED
* Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace or citizens encountered during work.

APPLY NOW PURPOSE: The purpose of this position is to receive and evaluate incoming police, fire, and/or EMS emergency and non-emergency calls, compile relevant information from callers, initiate an incident in CAD to be dispatched, and dispatch police, fire, and/or EMS units and personnel to the scene or transfer the call to the appropriate agency. This position acts under the supervision of a police and/or fire and EMS Dispatch Supervisor.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
* Trained and currently certified on either Police or Fire/EMS CAD and call-taking protocols.
* Receives and evaluates all incoming calls to determine the urgency of the reported situation. Compiles incident location, participants, and other relevant information and dispatches appropriate units to respond.
* Gathers information and prioritizes calls.
* Tracks the availability and status of response personnel.
* Logs and documents calls for service.
* Relays information clearly and concisely to response personnel and callers.
* Enters calls for service data, including type, location, and incident response, into the CAD system.
* Monitors multiple radio channels and telephone lines.
* Maintains knowledge of emergency communication equipment operations, emergency communication procedures and techniques, and County geography.
* May assist with in-house training of new Emergency Dispatch Call-Takers, Emergency Dispatchers, and other employees as requested.
* Maintains building security, including limited access to front doors after hours.
* May perform inquiries regarding wanted subjects, stolen property, and other information through the MULES computer database and relay information to law enforcement personnel. May conduct criminal history, towed vehicle, ex parte, and missing persons checks.
* Copies information to be delivered to other divisions or departments.
* Receives fax transmissions and distributes messages to the proper individual.
* May utilize resources such as MULES, REJIS, CAD, mobile data, AS400, and other online databases to collect pertinent information.
* Receives messages regarding the status of work operations during non-work hours.
* Must be available to work rotating 12-hour shifts, including holidays and weekends.
* Must participate in on-call rotations and work mandatory overtime when required.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
* Graduation from a general/technical high school or equivalent - Additional college courses preferred
* Successful completion of CritiCall computerized skills testing - Overall Data Entry Score of 3800 KSPH and Overall Non-Data Entry Score of 84% required
* Ability to work 12-hour shifts rotating between days and nights, as well as weekends and holidays
* Must be certified in Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) and Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD) or Emergency Police Dispatch (EPD) or willing to obtain EMD/EFD or EPD certification within 90 days of appointment; and be willing to be certified in all three at the time of cross-training
* Ability to interview callers under stressful situations and enter the appropriate information into the CAD System in an accurate and timely manner

RESPONSIBILITIES
Work closely with production and scheduling operations to execute schedules based on production needs by coordinating market animal transport and trailer wash requirements.
Establish and adjust work procedures to meet the needs of transportation, marketing, plant, and production.
Provide timely and accurate feedback on pertinent data and information to management.
Communicate with drivers, load out crews and management on a routine basis.
Ensure compliance of DOT and OSHA regulations, company and bio-security policies, and proper animal handling protocol.
Conduct on farm training and assessments with drivers
Administers and recommend training when appropriate.
Timely and accurate documentation of all issues associated with proper administration of department.
Prepare various reports for transportation management

Prepares and maintains the communications log which includes telephone service requests and other notifications for services; processes confidential materials/crime reports
Monitors alarm systems and closed circuit TV screens, maintains the record systems of the department; maintains and issues equipment used by field personnel
Types, files input and retrieves data on personal computers; aides and directs visitors to appropriate locations; prepares information research for monthly reports on overall departmental activity
