* Utilize Department of Criminal Justice Information Services (DCJIS), National Crime Information Center (NCIC), Openfox, Mass Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) web and other electronic data gathering tools to obtain information regarding suspects, offenders, victims, and witnesses.
* Transmit to and receive information from Campus Police Officers and staff via radio broadcast system, telephone and cell phone, radio scanner, and internet/local area networks.
* Aid shift supervisors to bring closure to all open calls and reports as directed.

Position Overview
Patiently explains the service options available for a potential client (including information on transportation procedures): takes requests for transportation services from eligible clients and members of the general public (including explaining how clients can use the system); assists passengers with trip planning; handles scheduling, confirmation, and cancellation of trips; vehicles to shifts; maintains two-way communication with drivers throughout the day, and handles other clerical duties as assigned by the Road Supervisors, Director of Operations, Operations Manager or Executive Director.

General Statement of Duties: The Communications Dispatcher II primarily receives and prioritizes emergency and non-emergency calls and in-person reports from the community. The incumbent dispatches campus police officers to calls, monitors cameras, enters data into logs, answers the window, and writes parking passes.

(E) Receives and prioritizes emergency and non-emergency calls. (E) Provides service window reception for purposes of information intake, parking pass requests, and general service. (E) Transmits messages from a radio communications base station in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Federal Communications Commission. (E) Monitors various radio frequencies to receive, evaluate, and forward information. (E) Operates radio transmitting and receiving equipment comprising a system of fixed stations and mobile units. (E) Maintains records and logs of information such as all messages received and transmitted, weather conditions and individuals or authorities to contact in emergency situations. (E) Searches files, both paper and electronic, to obtain information in response to inquiries. (E) Coordinates all radio communications including emergency systems, relays messages and instructions to mobile or fixed stations concerned and operates public address systems and paging devices. (E) Monitors security cameras. (E) Files, scans, completes, and processes paperwork as requested by supervisor and chain of command. (E) Oversees and monitors communications activities in order to ensure compliance with governing laws, rules, and regulations. (E) Provides on-the-job training to employees. (E) Maintains employee records to insure compliance with agency requirements. (E) Prepares employee work schedules to insure adequate communications. (E) Demonstrates civility and professional, customer-service oriented behavior, worthy of emulation by other staff and students. (E) Responsible for contributing to the WSU Strategic Plan. Required Qualifications:
Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in the operation of radio receiving and transmitting equipment. Possession of a valid Restricted Radiotelephone Operator's permit issued by the Federal Communications Commission. Ability to use proper English grammar, punctuation and spelling. Ability to read, write and comprehend the English language. Ability to understand, apply and explain the provisions of the laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, guidelines, etc. governing assigned unit activities. Ability to speak clearly and distinctly. Ability to communicate effectively in oral expression. Ability to give oral instructions in a precise, understandable manner. Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Ability to work accurately with names, numbers, codes and/or symbols. Ability to gather information through questioning individuals and by examining records and documents. Ability to assemble items of information in accordance with established procedures. Ability to maintain accurate records. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others. Ability to deal tactfully with others. Ability to supervise, including planning and assigning work according to the nature of the job to be accomplished, the capabilities of subordinates and available resources; controlling work through periodic review and/or evaluations; determining subordinates' training needs and providing or arranging for such training; motivating subordinates to work effectively; determining the need for disciplinary action and either recommending r initiating disciplinary action. Ability to perform essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to successfully pass a thorough background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associates (or higher) degree in criminal justice or related field. Desire to grow in the field of criminal justice and interest in working towards a campus police officer role.

This is a grade 13, non-exempt, full-time (40 hours), benefited AFSCME position. The bi-weekly salary is $1,988.05 (annual salary is $51,689.30).The current shift is TBD.

+ Coordinates vehicle service and mechanical repairs with Maintenance Supervisor to assure uninterrupted service delivery.
+ Maintains high compliance to dispatch standard operating procedures.
+ Handles customer concerns and requests for information in an expeditious and professional manner.
+ Escalates unresolved issues to management as appropriate.

+ Previous dispatch experience is preferred;
+ Knowledge of surrounding geographic area to ensure effective and efficient routing. Ability to organize and prioritize time to balance conflicting demands related to customer care and dispatching.
