What You'll Be Doing:
Schedule and dispatch moving personnel, drivers, and equipment based on customer requests and job specifications.

The major duties of the Public Safety Dispatcher position include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Serves as a dispatcher for the US Park Police, applying in-depth knowledge of dispatch operating systems, databases, and equipment, as well as knowledge of dispatch policies and past practices to isolate and solve unusual and difficult technical problems.
* Performs dispatch and call taking services for a wide variety of complex public safety related incidents and operations.
* Coordinates rescue, ambulance, and helicopter operations, etc., of various agencies.
* Receives and evaluates emergency calls for service.
* Provides dispatch support to law enforcement activities.
* Queries & relays wants, warrants, driver and vehicle status, Be on the Lookout (BOLO), and Attempt to Locate (ATL) information for law enforcement contacts and investigations.
* Serves as a certified operator of National Criminal Information Network (NCIC), National Law Enforcement Communications System (NLETS), and state criminal information networks (i.e., ACCESS, TLETS, VCIN, etc). Accesses, analyzes, and utilizes information from a variety of national, state, and local databases,
* Monitors a variety of alarm systems including intrusion, fire, robbery, panic, and maintenance related systems. Analyzes alarms. Ensures appropriate response. Reports on alarm systems troubles.
* Assists law enforcement officers with investigations.
Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.

EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience must include all of the following: Perform public safety dispatching (law enforcement. emergency medical, search and rescue, and fire) using personal computers and software programs to input data collected from callers; Independently operate public safety dispatch systems as: NCIC, NLETS, CLETS, or Computer-aided Dispatch (CAD); Operate computer-based equipment to include, but not limited to alarm monitoring systems, records management systems, computer aided dispatch systems, message notification systems, and report writing systems; and, Obtain information from incoming callers to disseminate during emergency situations.
You MUST include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies". Experience listed as full-time will be credited at 40 hours per week.

Physical Demands: Incumbent must function efficiently in a confined space for extended periods with no breaks and no opportunity to leave the confines of the Communications Center. The dispatcher is considered an "essential employee" meaning they are required to work most holidays, report for duty during adverse weather conditions, and be expected to work for long hours exceeding normally scheduled shifts in case of emergencies. Position is sedentary with high amounts of stress. Incumbent is subject to shift work, rotating shift work, and uncommon tours of duty. Work requires use of the voice in vocal communications for periods of hours at a time. Voice must be clear, audible, and tone effective with words plainly spoken and understandable. Incumbent must be able to hear clearly and discern a variety of audible communications and signals simultaneously. Incumbent must be able to read critical information from multiple sources, including computer screen, fax, and written log quickly and accurately. The work is of an emergency nature and is emotionally stressful. Incumbent must possess manual dexterity sufficient to operate computer terminals/keyboards and related equipment and to maintain written logs. Work involves occasional lifting of boxes and supplies up to weights of 50 pounds.
Working Conditions: The work is normally performed in a well-lighted and temperature-controlled room. Noise levels are routinely high due to electronic equipment, telephones, radios, and other discussions ongoing in the performance of duties. The setting is typically confined and secure, and entrance and egress is controlled.
The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are NOT suitable for telework.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Salt Watch Volunteer Coordination and Partnership Building
Recruit, equip and support Izaak Walton League members, partner organizations and community volunteers to serve as Salt Watch partners and volunteers in existing and new Salt Watch locations.
Coordinate and conduct in-person and online events in key locations across the U.S. to promote the Salt Watch program and facilitate new partnership and participation.
Develop advocacy resources for Salt Watch volunteers and partners to utilize when a road salt pollution problem is detected, including sample letters to government representatives and media kits.
Coordinate the timely purchasing, collating and distribution of Salt Watch kits nationally.
Communicate regularly and frequently with Salt Watch volunteers, watershed organizations and others to support local Salt Watch efforts and foster an interconnected network of Salt Watch volunteers and partners.
Establish formal partnerships with participating organizations for future collaboration and joint fundraising.
Data Management
Ensure Salt Watch data is compiled from Water Reporter and other sources on a weekly basis.

WORKING CONDITIONS

What Will You Do?
In this role, you will provide support for the 24/7 Medical Emergency Dispatch and Communications Center at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in Bethesda, MD.
Responsibilities:
Provides emergency communication reception and dispatching services. Determines the nature of the emergency in accordance with established guidelines.
Determines the response and services to be rendered based upon the emergency call received and dispatches the correct emergency team based upon the information received.
Maintains constant liaison with the scene of the emergency to include; fire officials, police, Command Duty Officer, and any other unit control centers involved with the emergency until official termination of the incident.
During periods of multiple emergencies, uses independent judgment to determine which calls need immediate attention. Additionally, prioritizes multiple emergency and non-emergency calls to determine appropriate response levels based on the needs of the caller.
Monitors various emergency radios including police, fire, and mutual aid frequencies.
Provides information to senior officials as requested. Conducts follow-up inquiries to track action being taken within the hospital.
Coordinates with military and civilian agencies in response to aid requests in accordance with locally established protocols.
Conducts daily pager tests at required intervals, ensuring proper response times. In the event a pager is not functional, will coordinate with the duty provider and Information Technology Department to repair or replace telecommunication equipment.
Maintains an activity log of all significant daily events, emergencies, processes, or notifications received through the communication center. Maintains an electronic daily activity log of all activities according to locally established protocols. Takes necessary measures to ensure information contained in each data entry is accurate and provides a clear picture of emergency and daily activities of the dispatch center.
Maintains maps, checklists, online data logs, and charts. Maintains checklists and is fully proficient in the use of these checklists during emergency operations.
Provides input to the supervisor regarding maintenance and updating of checklists. Maintains on and off base maps and other visual aids frequently utilized as quick information references for responding emergency personnel.
Operates and maintains telephones, radios, automated data processing equipment, printers, and other devices installed in the dispatch center. Monitors radio and telephone communications with police, fire, and hospital units during emergencies. Refers non-emergency callers to appropriate agencies as needed.
Receives, relays, and transfers phone calls and documents messages. Operates Hospital Code Alarm system. Receives and processes all significant information received in accordance with established protocols. Operates WRNMMC paging system to make announcements
Prepares and maintains reports and records relating to emergency responses. Prepares an incident report for the locally utilized database management system, using correct codes and categories in the preparation of the report in accordance with locally established guidelines.
Provides statistical data to supervisors. Compiles, collates, and verifies emergency and non-emergency response data generated by or processed through the communications center and enters appropriate information into the local reporting systems.

Requirements
One (1) year of responsible work experience as an emergency or non-emergency dispatcher/call center operator, public safety officer, security, military or healthcare services, or relevant work experience using two-radio communication
Ability to work well under pressure
High School Diploma
Proficiency in standard computer operations, including proficient typing skills
Knowledge of the logs, reports, and filing procedures to perform necessary operator logging and documentation
Knowledge and skill to coordinate the work of the E-911 center with installation-wide emergency services and other offices having a relationship

Summary:
The University Police Dispatcher performs responsible telecommunications work under frequent stressful conditions. This position receives emergency and non-emergency calls for service from the public, law enforcement, and fire and rescue communities, as well as maintenance of radio communications with American University Police Officers. The Dispatcher uses a computer-aided dispatching system to manage service calls, two-way radio dispatching, and information collection. Essential Functions:
1.) Dispatch Services
* Receives emergency request for service by radio and telephone, determines appropriate response according to location and nature of problem and procedures of the department; receives non-emergency requests for service and provides appropriate response to callers; enters, records, tracks and updates service calls and police activity in the computer-aided dispatch system.
2.) Alarm and Camera System Monitoring
* Monitors and operates the university security system, dispatches officers to reset all active alarms. Monitors and operates fire alarm monitoring system, dispatches officers to reset all active trouble and fire alarms. Monitors University wide closed circuit television cameras, assesses camera events and relays information to officers.
3.) Information Services and Emergency Notification
* Provides information to police officers, such as criminal histories, wanted checks, vehicle registration status; conducts emergency notifications upon approval from the Senior Director; provides information to the public and university community as requested.
4.) Access Control Services
* Maintains and updates access control records, authorization lists, emergency contact numbers, alarm codes. Tracks restricted keys issued for temporary use.
5.) Assists with Training Programs; Other Duties as Assigned
