As a Communications Specialist (REMSA Health Dispatcher) you answer emergency medical and fire calls for service and dispatch ambulances and fire resources to locations requesting help. As a call taker you process emergency medical and fire related calls using established protocols. You give callers instructions to begin patient care and how to safeguard themselves until help arrives on scene. The dispatcher position is responsible for sending the closest appropriate response resource to the scene. The dispatcher also communicates safety concerns involving patients and responders to determine whether or not additional precautions or equipment should be taken.
We offer a full academy training to develop the skills and competence to successfully process calls and dispatch resources. Prior medical or fire experience is preferred. Need is forever changing; therefore, adaptability and flexibility are a must. Shifts are assigned by system need, seniority and performance, and have the potential to be changed without notice.

High-performance EMS experience a plus.
EMD certification strongly preferred.

Obtain AHA healthcare provider CPR card.

ROLE of the POSITION
University Police Department (UPD) is conducting a continuous recruitment for current openings for regular or PERS Retired Public Safety Dispatcher. Positions may be assigned to any campus to include the College of Southern Nevada, Desert Research Institute, Nevada State College, and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
UPD Public Safety Dispatchers serve as the gateway to and for emergency personnel for all NSHE Campuses in Clark County and coordinate responses with police, fire, medical and other emergency agencies. The Public Safety Dispatcher is the centralized point of contact to gather information and direct emergency response agencies within the jurisdiction of UPD. Under general supervision, the public safety dispatcher receives, evaluates, prioritizes and dispatches public safety calls for service and responds to emergency and non-emergency calls in a timely and appropriate manner. UPD public safety dispatchers operate a variety of communications equipment including radio, telephone, telephony, TDD and multiple computer systems and relays data into the computer aided dispatch (CAD) program. Public safety dispatchers access and correlate information from the National Criminal Information Center (NCIC) database as well as the Nevada Criminal Justice Information System (NCJIS) to provide criminal history information for wanted persons or items, along with other sensitive information necessary for the Police Department to perform their daily activities for the University community. The public safety dispatcher monitors all fire and burglar alarms to all buildings and offices on campus. The public safety dispatcher accesses the closed circuit television (CCTV) or security video cameras on campus. The dispatch center is operated 24/7, 365 days a year for routine and emergency calls for service. They also handle all after hours maintenance calls and contacts for the University.
DEPARTMENT INFORMATION
The department is a full-service police department comprised of patrol operations, administration, police dispatch and a detective division. Services include a canine program, walking and bicycle patrols, and a pro-active, selective traffic enforcement program and takes a leadership role in preparing the University to respond to large-scale crises and events. The patrol area for UPD encompasses all Nevada System of Higher Education facilities in the Las Vegas Metropolitan area. University Police Department, Southern Command, is a full service category I law enforcement agency that serves the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, the College of Southern Nevada, the Desert Research Institute and Nevada State College. The department consists of 120 employees and has responsibility for the public safety needs of 80,000 students, faculty and staff over an 800 square mile service area. Provides accurate and understandable directions to Security team members, customers, and emergency responders including but not limited to local law enforcement and fire department personnel.
Determines the number of units, and which units, to dispatch by considering such factors as time of day, description, and location of calls, units available and probable degree of hazard to the responding units.
Monitors alarm systems, and other systems in accordance with policy and procedures. Concurrently monitors and utilize multiple radio frequencies.
Documents all relevant Palms transmissions in emergency situations with accuracy.
Makes appropriate notifications for request e.g., taxis, tow trucks, locksmiths, and beekeepers.
Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.

Qualifications
High School Diploma or (GED) required.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Radio dispatch emergent and non-emergent traffic for Renown Health facilities, and various other special projects and locations. Telephonic contact with fire, law enforcement, and emergency agencies. The critical systems and telephones must be monitored on a seven-day, twenty-four-hour basis: therefore Security Dispatchers are required to work all shifts, including holidays, weekends and overtime as required. All employees are subject to being called in and therefore must maintain a telephone number or have another mechanism available for contacting them. Missed time cannot be made up; attendance and punctuality are a must.

Dispatch Security Officers: Quickly and efficiently dispatch security personnel to respond to alarms and incidents.
Monitor Alarms: Use CCTV systems and other tools to monitor alarms and respond as necessary.
Coordinate Responses: Work closely with security teams to ensure fast and effective responses to security breaches or incidents.
Document Incidents: Maintain detailed incident logs and records of all dispatched events.
Provide Support: Offer assistance and support to security officers in the field as needed.
Requirements
Licensing: Possession of a valid security license or the ability to obtain one.
Experience: Previous experience in security or dispatch roles is preferred.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
Problem-Solving: Ability to think quickly and make sound decisions under pressure.
Detail-Oriented: Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
Availability: Willingness to work varying shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
