Summary: This position independently performs requested ultrasound examinations, searching for any possible pathology as indicated by the patient's symptoms/medical history and/or results from previous testing. The position reviews and discusses the ultrasound findings with the radiologist and a diagnosis is made. Responsibilities And Duties: 60% Performs various ultrasound examinations. Subjectively interprets information based on judgmental decisions by Ultrasonographers, requiring in-depth knowledge of human anatomy, physiology and pathology. Maintains complete knowledge of wave form physics, i.e., , time gain compensation curves, attenuation factors, etc. , required to set equipment variable properly for appropriate imaging of specific anatomy. Assists Radiologists with performance of invasive procedures. 10% Independently evaluates normal vs. abnormal test results in correlation with patient history, previous examinations, lab results, etc. 10% Independently gives preliminary ultrasound results to attending physicians, surgeons, residents, etc. regarding any vascular ultrasound procedures as determined by site accreditation. 10% Teaches/educates imaging students, medical students and residents in basic scanning methods and instrumentation of ultrasound. 10% Maintains equipment and stocks supplies. Performs quality control procedures and maintains documentation. About this Job: Performs angiographic therapeutic and interventional procedures. Responsible for patient management prior to during and after the procedure. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations. Administers contrast media into the coronary arteries as directed by a Cardiologist during a cardiac catheterization procedure. Recognizes the effect of pathology and vital signs to determine the amount of pressure of each hand injection. Applies knowledge of the normal physiologic and electrocardiographic sequences of cardiac contraction and recognizes both minor and dangerous arrhythmia. Provides appropriate patient care as required. Functions as a first assistant to the physician by scrubbing independently and aiding in the manipulation and placement of guide wires and catheters. Administers contrast media in accordance with physician instruction. Maintains adequate basic interventional and cardiac supplies. Orders supplies from outside vendors in hospital purchasing system. Assists supervisor with all aspects of inventory control. Maintains all appropriate patient records and department check sheets. Correctly enters patient and supply information into the RIS and/or hospital computer system. Performs angiographic therapeutic and interventional imaging procedures. Performs electrophysiology and ablation procedures. Provides quality patient care and monitoring during all phases of the procedure in accordance with physician instructions and established policy. Has knowledge of all equipment inventory and location of supplies. Operates emergency equipment safely. Performs hemodynamic physiologic patient monitoring recording calculations of cardiovascular procedures. Responds to on-call emergencies in accordance with department policy. Responsible for post-procedural duties including observation and management of catheter and/or device insertion site and patient discharge instructions. Provides patient transportation and communicates patient care status to receiving care unit. Responsible for pre-procedural duties such as sterile tray preparation procedural patient education and confirmation of required lab work and patient medical history including indications for the study and all previous related exams. Safely operates all imaging equipment (for example digital equipment pressure injectors processors rapid film changer and cine) to produce high-quality diagnostic images in accordance with departmental policy. Schedules and maintains orderly patient flow. Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts. Key Responsibilities: Conduct portable, stress, saline bubble, and contrast-enhanced echo studies Assist with transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) procedures Ensure complete and accurate documentation and billing Work independently while maintaining strong organization Support training and orientation of students and trainees Participate in varied shifts, weekend rotations, holidays, and on-call assignments (must arrive within 45 minutes when paged) Maintain a strong patient-centered approach and effective communication Follow sterile technique, isolation precautions, and safety protocols Work safely with hazardous materials and medical equipment Requirements Education: Graduated from a cardiovascular technology program or diagnostic medical ultrasound program. City/State Harrisonburg, VA Work Shift First (Days) Sentara Rockingham Memorial Hospital is hiring an Echocardiographer for the Cardiac service line non-invasive lab. This is a full time, day shift position in Harrisonburg, Va. Sign on Bonus of up to $20,000 for qualified candidates. Hours: Monday - Friday, day shift, with call every 7th week to include the weekend. The echocardiographer is off the preceding Friday and following Monday of their call weekend. The Echocardiographer must live within a 30-minute drive of the hospital for call purposes. An Echocardiographer, also known as a cardiac sonographer, specializes in performing diagnostic ultrasound examinations of the heart. These professionals work closely with cardiologists to evaluate heart structures, functions, and blood flow, aiding in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular conditions. The Sentara RMH Medical Center echocardiography lab is considered high volume with close to 9,500 procedures performed annually.
