Summary: This position independently performs requested ultrasound examinations, searching for any possible pathology as indicated by the patient's symptoms/medical history and/or results from previous testing. The position reviews and discusses the ultrasound findings with the radiologist and a diagnosis is made. Responsibilities And Duties: 60% Performs various ultrasound examinations. Subjectively interprets information based on judgmental decisions by Ultrasonographers, requiring in-depth knowledge of human anatomy, physiology and pathology. Maintains complete knowledge of wave form physics, i.e., , time gain compensation curves, attenuation factors, etc. , required to set equipment variable properly for appropriate imaging of specific anatomy. Assists Radiologists with performance of invasive procedures. 10% Independently evaluates normal vs. abnormal test results in correlation with patient history, previous examinations, lab results, etc. 10% Independently gives preliminary ultrasound results to attending physicians, surgeons, residents, etc. regarding any vascular ultrasound procedures as determined by site accreditation. 10% Teaches/educates imaging students, medical students and residents in basic scanning methods and instrumentation of ultrasound. 10% Maintains equipment and stocks supplies. Performs quality control procedures and maintains documentation. Ultrasound Technologist -performs diagnostic sonographic examinations utilizing ultrasonic equipment to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data. Schedules and coordinates tests, records test results, and prepares and maintains operational logs. Essential Responsibilities: Performs Ultrasound Examinations. Documents patient assessment and history. Provides patient education. Operates computer and ultrasound equipment for image production and documentation. Practices accurate and timely completion of scheduled and unscheduled work to maximize productivity. Performs quality control measures for the purpose of ensuring optimal images. Enters and properly completes all patient information including exam charges and supplies into the Radiology Information System (RIS). Prepares films for interpretation by the radiologist in an accurate and timely manner. Exhibits flexibility and adaptability to unique needs of the department and respond appropriately. Communicate abnormal situations to proper sources in a way that facilitates resolution and/or tracking. Actively engages other health care providers (radiologist, surgeons, specialist, and mammographers) to ensure quality, continuity and appropriateness of care. Follows department procedures/processes/policies. Practices safety measures in radiography by adhering to all governing regulations. Follows universal precautions, infection control guidelines and sterile technique. Complies with all governing regulations. Stocks and cleans exam rooms/work areas. Other duties as assigned. Applies the professions code of ethics in all aspects of practice. Basic Qualifications: Experience Minimum one (1) year experience in Ultrasonography a minimum (will only accept new graduates from KPGA affiliated ultrasound program educational institutions). Education Graduate of AMA approved Ultrasonography Program. High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required. License, Certification, Registration Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate Basic Life Support Additional Requirements: Basic PC (keyboarding & navigation) skills. An in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology is also required so the technologist can evaluate laboratory data, past medical history and pertinent symptoms to tailor the ultrasound or vascular examination to each patient individually. Keeps up to date of new developments, techniques, and equipment in the ultrasound field by attending courses, seminars and review of professional publications. Physical Requirements: 1. Frequent standing, occasional sitting & walking, lifting of 30-35 lbs., pushing and maneuvering equipment. 2.
