DIT-MCO company history timeline

1948

DIT-MCO began its evolution shortly after founder George P. Heller incorporated his business that catered to the once-flourishing drive-in theater business in 1948.

1950

When the drive‐in movie business began to fade in the 1950's, the company quickly shifted its focus to electronics and began developing systems to test electrical cables and complex wiring assemblies.

1951

Drive-In Theater Manufacturing Company, renamed DIT-MCO in 1951, produced theater screens, speakers and other projection equipment.

1953

By early 1953, the construction boom of drive-in theaters ebbed and Heller looked for other avenues of revenue.

1954

By 1954, Goodyear purchased the company’s first Universal Circuit Analyzer.

1960

By 1960, engineering began on the first random access wiring analyzer.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Have you ever wondered what happened to all those small technology companies that disappeared during the mergers and acquisitions of the late 1960's?

1964

In 1964, it purchased Brooks Re. search and Development Inc., also in the cable‐testing business, and the Ace Electric Company, a small maker of alternators and generators for the automobile after‐market.

1966

A year later, it picked up Jameson Parts Manufacturing, which made electric‐motor shafts, and in 1966, the Digital Development Corporation, a San Diego manufacturer of computer memory disks.

1977

The company was sold to its longtime president, F.L. Thompson, and some other Kansas City investors in 1977.
