The ActivityAssistant supports the Lantern Program Director (LPD) and facilitates activities for residents with varying cognitive abilities. Responsibilities: * Lead group activities listed on the monthly activity calendar or as directed by the LPD.

Plans and leads/co-leads the daily recreation-based therapeutic activities curriculum with patients for both and large and small groups under the direction and supervision of the Clinical Services Manager. The activities chosen and implemented will support the patients in meeting their goals in regard to their psychiatric, emotional and social needs. Leads psychoeducational activity groups to assist with managing their specific challenges. These groups will assist with building coping skills and improving social relationships. Conducts Comprehensive Activities Assessments on new admissions and establishes patient specific therapeutic activities treatment goals and interventions on the interdisciplinary plan of care. Documents observations, interactions, care and treatment provided in clear and concise manner and in accordance with hospital guidelines. Evaluates each patient's progress and the effectiveness of recreational/leisure therapy interventions. Encourages patient participation in therapeutic/recreational activity programming.Adheres to policies and procedure and demonstrates practices that ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, co-workers and self.Motivates patients to participate in activities of daily living and unit program within their physical and mental capabilities. Conducts and completes personal and belonging search following guidelines of procedure with accurate documentation, labeling of belongings, and indicated distribution and storage.Accurately follows directions of licensed personnel.CPR certification.MOAB/CPI certification.
Qualifications
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related field from an accredited college/university.
Skills and Abilities: 1) Ability to communicate effectively with others, 2) Knowledge of psychiatric illnesses as well as the impact said illnesses have on activities of daily functioning, leisure and socialization 3) Knowledge of effective and appropriate recreational and therapeutic activities for patients to engage in while hospitalized for psychiatric illnesses.
Experience:
One year experience preferred working with individuals in a mental health setting.

Responsibilities:
1. Must perform proficiently in all competency areas including but not limited to: general activities duties,, supervisory responsibilities, care plan and documentation responsibilities, patient rights, and safety and sanitation principles and techniques of therapy as applies in an acute care psychiatric facility
2. Must demonstrate understanding of basic medical and psychiatric terminology as well as basic regulations governing the treatment of people in psychiatric health facilities.
3. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing while appropriately and descriptively charting patient progress and behavior. Maintain detailed records of activity programs and participation of individual residents, identifying progress toward established care plan goals.
4. Adapt treatment programs by graduating tasks to meet patient's level of function
5. Develop, organize, and implement a program of adjunctive therapy activities to meet the social, emotional, physical and other therapeutic needs of patients as identified on the patients' plan of care and within the specified budget.
6. Must be able to make regular in-room visits to patients uninterested or unable to participate in group activities
7. Must exhibit excellent customer service and a positive attitude towards patients. Coordinate and verify that assistance is provided to residents for activities and events as necessary. Create an ongoing calendar of activities, which creatively meets multiple needs and is accessible and appealing to both men and women of all ages and abilities.

Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreational Therapy or related field required.
Three or more years' experience in recreation in a healthcare setting with knowledge of patient population served by the facility required.
Previous experience in recreation in a healthcare setting is preferred.
LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:
Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or currently in the process of obtaining national certification; OR certified in the area of specialty (Art, Dance, Music, etc.)
CPR and de-escalation and restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).
First aid may be required based on state or facility requirements.

Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Complete activity assessment through patient observation and patient/family interview, obtaining information on the patient's needs, skills, interests and limitations for the development and implementation of the treatment plan.
Plan, organize, direct and implement the activities within the treatment program to facility patient progress with treatment goals.
Plan and implement an activities program including but not limited to therapeutic leisure skills and activities, leisure education and leisure awareness.
Facilitate and lead activity sessions to improve patient mental and physical well-being.
Instruct patients in activities and techniques, such are sports, dance, music, art or relaxation techniques designed to meet their specific needs.
Develop treatment plans and implement activity interventions that meet patient needs and interests and helps the patient achieve his/her treatment goals.
Engage patients in therapeutic activities, such as exercise, games and community outings.
Help patients learn social skills needed to become or remain independent.
Modify activities to suit the needs of specific groups.
Demonstrate a positive, empathetic and professional attitude towards customers always. When patient needs are not met, acknowledge and work to resolve complaints. Recognize that patient safety is a top priority.
