The Position:

Generate is seeking a unique individual to help build and lead a world-class, multi-microscope cryo-EM facility engaged in machine learning-guided protein structure determination at unprecedented scale and throughput, utilizing the latest in electron microscope and detector technologies. The highly experienced, innovative, and scientifically curious candidate will be responsible for building and managing a team of scientists, research associates, engineers. and technicians performing production, sample preparation, image capture, and structure resolution across a range different protein modalities. The candidate will work closely with our Computational and Protein Sciences departments during the planning and execution of our cryo-EM projects. They will be responsible for helping to drive the broader strategy of the cryo-EM team, including goal setting, resource tracking, and data feedback to our machine learning platform.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and lead team of scientists, engineers, and research technicians performing all activities related to cryo EM including construct design, protein expression/purification/characterization, sample preparation, imaging, instrument and facility maintenance, and technology improvement.
  • Manage all cryo EM activities in department being accountable for planning, prioritization, budgeting, and data management
  • Efficiently accomplish project goals on time and budget, tracking capacity constraints and resource use within team
  • Stay scientifically current, and implement new technologies to enhance cryo EM capabilities with an emphasis on the machine learning data feedback loop
  • Advise the leadership team on staff and resource needs, organizational planning, technology development, and other aspects as Generate continues to grow.
  • Manage external CROs
