Overview
The Senior Heavy Equipment Mechanic provides senior level mechanical experience in the installation, repair, and maintenance of stationary plant equipment, vehicle, heavy automotive equipment, and facilities.
Essential Functions
1. Performs, leads, and provides senior level expertise for the maintenance, care, preventative maintenance, and repair of the City's Heavy Equipment; performs complex mechanical work on equipment and oversees other mechanics and technicians ensuring work quality and completion.
2. Performs major and minor repairs on a variety of machinery and heavy equipment in compliance with operations manuals and manufacturers' specifications to ensure equipment operates properly; changes belts, oil, filters, greases bearings, cleans, lubricates or replaces parts on various mechanical and electrical equipment.
3. Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and determines equipment failures; identifies issues, determines causes, and ensures appropriate repairs by the mechanics; implements strong protocols and safety standards, and monitors adherence and application of policies and protocols.
4. Inspects and tests completed work to ensure repairs were performed according to standards; assigns work, tracks work orders, provides direction and leadership to other mechanics.
5. Tracks and monitors inventory of equipment, parts, and supplies; places orders for parts needed for repairs, maintains records of purchases and installations, and monitors disbursement of tools, equipment, and parts.
6. Demonstrates proper work methods and safety protocols to other mechanics and technicians to ensure that work is performed in a proper and safe manner and to assist with complex repairs.
7. Performs any and all work as needed or assigned.
8. Performs state mandated inspections to ensures appropriate work is completed.
Knowledge and Skills
1. Knowledge of the mechanical systems assigned.
2. Thorough knowledge of the principals of maintenance and repair.
3. Skills in the use of appropriate hand tools and repair techniques.
4. Ability to read and interpret instructions and diagrams contained in the manufacturer's manuals.
5. Ability to analyze and diagnose problems.
6. Ability to operate computer diagnostic equipment.
7. Ability to lead and direct technicians and provide senior level expertise.
8. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
High school diploma /GED or equivalent work experience.
EXPERIENCE:
Four (4) years of experience in performing preventative maintenance on various mechanical, electrical, HVAC, or heavy plant equipment.
LICENSES:
Valid driver's license with good driving record.
Must have a Class A or B Commercial Driver's License.

Completes assigned repairs and upgrades to system equipment and facilities.
Monitors the operation of system equipment and facilities.
Performs general landscaping duties and facility operation and maintenance tasks.
Prepares and presents written, verbal and special reports as necessary.
Monitors the work of subcontractors and vendors.

+ Carry 75-80 lbs., to include an extension ladder
+ Ability to work at heights of 20+ feet, bend, stand, sit, crawl, climb and lift throughout the work shift

**Qualifications**
+ 1+ years of Aerial Lineman, telecommunication and pole climbing experience preferred
+ 1+ years of experience working on Construction or Utility projects.
+ High school graduate or GED certificate preferred.
+ OSHA certification is a plus, but not required. Must be able to complete online OSHA and safety-related certifications

Duration

Requirements
* Work safely to complete snow removal to customer specifications and quality standards
* Utilize effective communication for on-the-job issues that may arise
* Submit details of hours, activities, and materials in an accurate and timely manner
* Complete all training, onboarding, snow removal safety, and route learning
* Must be at least 18 years of age or older
* Professional Commercial snow removal experience preferred
* Smart Phone
* Experience operating wheel loaders, skid steers, agricultural tractors, tractor- trailers, and bulldozers preferred, but not required
* Available for on-call work including nights, days, holidays, and weekend work as needed
* Must have access to reliable transportation to and from work and be able to work in extreme weather conditions including subfreezing temperatures and heavy precipitation
