Research Scientist - 2D Polymer Chemist

AV has an opportunity available for a full-time research scientist to work with the Polymer and Responsive Materials Research Team at Wright Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB), OH. The successful candidate will join a team of diverse and multi-disciplinary scientists with a broad range of skills including synthetic chemistry, nanomaterial development, mechanical engineering, and polymer modeling. The candidate will be responsible for the design and synthesis of 2D conjugated polymers, such as Covalent Organic Frameworks (COFs), for optoelectronic applications. Successful candidates must possess strong synthesis skills, specifically related to the preparation of low-dimensional organic materials and conjugated polymers, as well as expertise in film fabrication. Furthermore, knowledge of and experience with a wide array of electrochemistry and optoelectronic characterization techniques are highly desired. The candidate will be expected to contribute to the thought leadership of the project and will have the opportunity to expand their skillset in a wide array of materials chemistry and engineering while refining their written and oral communication skills. The Team Member in this role will be responsible for working directly with our research barn managers to assist in the daily care and management of pigs at our swine research barns. The selected individual(s) for this position will also be responsible for helping with accurate data collection such as weighing pigs and feeders for research trials related to swine nutrition and production management. Additional responsibilities including weekend care, power washing, cleaning, unloading and loading pigs, and routine barn maintenance are expected in this position. The successful candidate should be self-motivated, detail oriented, and work well independently and in a team environment. Candidates with previous livestock and/or agricultural experience are preferred, but not necessary. Basic computer and technology skills would be a plus. Forest Health - How do plant diseases and infestations impact native trees and ecosystems? Plant-Microbe Symbiosis - How do microbe-microbe and microbe-host interactions influence organismal and ecosystem resilience under climate change? Plant Physiological Ecology - How do plants manage and respond to climate stress, and how does this shape the future of plants on earth? Restoration Ecology - How do global change drivers, including climate change, affect the natural world and how can we employ restoration techniques to support healthy ecosystems? Soil Ecology - How do microbes in the soil shape plant communities and their function in the ecosystem? Population Ecology - How do microenvironments impact growth, survival, and distribution of tree species and structure forest types? The Department of Physics at the University of Dayton is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in the area of Tissue Optics. Strong candidates will have research backgrounds in both academic and non-academic settings, involving design, building, and validation/testing of tissue optical spectroscopy and/or imaging equipment, as well as computational modeling of the interaction of light with biological tissue. Duties of the position will include designing optical spectroscopic imaging technology, using numerical simulation and machine learning tools to extract diagnostically-relevant physiological parameters from tissue-optics data, working with students to compare results obtained from different devices and models, and helping to design clinical studies to test the technology in healthy volunteers and patients.
