Research Scientist - 2D Polymer Chemist

AV has an opportunity available for a full-time research scientist to work with the Polymer and Responsive Materials Research Team at Wright Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB), OH. The successful candidate will join a team of diverse and multi-disciplinary scientists with a broad range of skills including synthetic chemistry, nanomaterial development, mechanical engineering, and polymer modeling. The candidate will be responsible for the design and synthesis of 2D conjugated polymers, such as Covalent Organic Frameworks (COFs), for optoelectronic applications. Successful candidates must possess strong synthesis skills, specifically related to the preparation of low-dimensional organic materials and conjugated polymers, as well as expertise in film fabrication. Furthermore, knowledge of and experience with a wide array of electrochemistry and optoelectronic characterization techniques are highly desired. The candidate will be expected to contribute to the thought leadership of the project and will have the opportunity to expand their skillset in a wide array of materials chemistry and engineering while refining their written and oral communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design, synthesis, and processing of conjugated polymers or COFs for optoelectronic materials
* Electrochemical and optoelectronic characterization of COFs or conjugated polymers
* Collaboration with other experts to further characterize and expand the applicability of synthetic platforms beyond the chemistry
* Communicate methodologies effectively both written and verbal to a community of peers
* Manage and mentor the research and professional development of junior team members
Requirements:
* This position is working within a government facility and requires US Citizenship (and may require the ability to obtain a security clearance).
* PhD in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field of study required
* 0-3 years' experience
* Ability to understand and apply principles of organic polymer synthesis to develop next-generation materials systems
* Strong quantitative and problem-solving skills
* Strong oral and written communication skills
* Willingness to collaborate and communicate with other scientists with professionally and personally diverse backgrounds
* Familiarity with productivity software suites (Microsoft Office, Google Suite) that are used for email, word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, cloud file sharing, and virtual meetings

Will contribute ideas, experiments and findings to research peers on a weekly basis.
Plans and runs greenhouse trials by setting up, trial maintenance and data collection, followed by data entry and analysis. Presents findings and data to research team.
Maintain trials, including irrigation, scouting for pests, and application of plant growth regulators and/or insecticides as needed for healthy crop production.
Pour-through methods to measure pH and EC of pot leachate.
Document trials with photos at the beginning and end, including photos of individual plant treatments. Transfer photos to computer and annotate/label crop photos.
Reads and reviews research literature to generate innovative ideas for new product development.
Identifies production or post-harvest related problems within industry, reviews literature to learn possible solutions and uses the information to improve or develop product solutions.
Aseptic culturing techniques (including media).
Maintain greenhouse and lab areas in a clean and organized manner.
Maintain inventory and requisition supplies and chemicals.
Who We Are Looking For:
An individual with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in horticulture, environmental sciences, biology or botany is preferred.
An individual who has a minimum of 1 to 2 years greenhouse floriculture or CEA experience is preferred.
An individual with knowledge of greenhouse operations and management is preferred.

Primary Responsibilities
Assist in daily pig care; check, identify, and administer treatment to sick pigs, monitor room temperatures, feed levels, water meters, and ventilation settings
Provide support for research measurement days and between research studies
Collect pig health status, feed usage, pig bodyweights, and other notable observations related to research trials
Regularly handle, restrain, move, and load pigs of various sizes (12 -300+ lbs.)
Pressure wash and disinfect animal rooms as well as load out chutes and hallways in between animal groups
Maintain flexibility to work at different research barns based on scheduling and project needs
Operate a tractor, spray weeds, mow lawn, manage and rotate compost bays
Learn and understand feeding equipment and environmental controls
Wash and disinfect scales, buckets, boots, panels, and other equipment regularly
Carry out and understand the importance of all biosecurity procedures including showering in and out of research barns
Perform other job duties assigned that are found to be necessary by the barn manager including miscellaneous maintenance of facility and equipment: fix broken water lines and drinkers, change light bulbs, regular greasing of fans and other equipment
Set up rooms to receive new pigs for research trials
Expected hours consist of 15-25+ hours per week, including weekend and holiday hours

Research Intern Holden Arboretum Internship Opportunity: The Research department seeks several Summer Research Interns. Research Interns will spend the summer conducting research at Holden Forests & Gardens (HF&G) within the Arboretum campus' 3,600 acres of forested land, extensive living plant collections, and high-tech laboratories. Types of skills learned over the summer may include, for example: plant and insect identification; microbial isolation and culturing; extracting, amplifying, and analyzing DNA; thermal and spectral phenotyping, micro-controllers for environmental monitoring. Interns will also learn about experimental design, data analysis in R, and science communication. Interns may work with other Holden Forests & Garden Departments, with opportunities for cross-training. In addition, all members of the Holden Forests & Gardens' (HF&G) intern cohort will have the chance to participate in professional development, such as workshops, scientific lectures, networking, and field trip experiences. All interns will have the opportunity to develop and present their research at HF&G's SEARCH symposium. This position is based at the Holden Arboretum campus' Long Center for Plant and Environmental Science in Kirtland, OH with occasional travel to the Cleveland Botanical Garden in Cleveland, OH. Plant-Microbe Symbiosis - How do microbe-microbe and microbe-host interactions influence organismal and ecosystem resilience under climate change?
Plant Physiological Ecology - How do plants manage and respond to climate stress, and how does this shape the future of plants on earth?
Restoration Ecology - How do global change drivers, including climate change, affect the natural world and how can we employ restoration techniques to support healthy ecosystems?
Soil Ecology - How do microbes in the soil shape plant communities and their function in the ecosystem?
Population Ecology - How do microenvironments impact growth, survival, and distribution of tree species and structure forest types?

The Department of Physics at the University of Dayton is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in the area of Tissue Optics. Strong candidates will have research backgrounds in both academic and non-academic settings, involving design, building, and validation/testing of tissue optical spectroscopy and/or imaging equipment, as well as computational modeling of the interaction of light with biological tissue.
Duties of the position will include designing optical spectroscopic imaging technology, using numerical simulation and machine learning tools to extract diagnostically-relevant physiological parameters from tissue-optics data, working with students to compare results obtained from different devices and models, and helping to design clinical studies to test the technology in healthy volunteers and patients.
Minimum Qualifications:
