Doctors' Center Hospital Inc history

On July 7, 1962, a group of local physicians opened Doctors Hospital of Modesto to provide healthcare services to the community.

The beginning of the end came in 1964, when the US Public Health Service announced that $1.7 million in grants would be made available to relocate Doctors' Hospital to 15 acres of donated land in Mayfield Heights east of SOM Center Road.

March 1967- Doctors Hospital invests millions of dollars in equipment to serve the growing needs of Sarasota.

The complex, eventually christened Hillcrest Hospital, opened in November 1968, with 31 patients transferred by ambulance from the doomed Doctors' Hospital in Cleveland Heights.

Doctors' Hospital was demolished in February 1969 and the new fire station and city hall were built elsewhere.

April 1971- The community and volunteer groups support Doctors Hospital with donations of the latest medical equipment.

The hospital attempted to gain more space, but in 1977 the first building of the International Square Complex was built and the hospital was out of options for expansion.

The hospital announced its bankruptcy in September 1979 and closed just a few weeks later.

By 1982, the International Square Complex comprised the entire block where Doctors Hospital once stood.

June 1993- Construction continues on a new $40-million-dollar complex on Bee Ridge Road.

In March of 1996, a major expansion and renovation project, Family Health Focus, was completed at both facilities, Doctors Hospital North and Doctors Hospital West.
