Job Summary Dominion Energy's Electric Transmission System Operations Center (ET SOC) is seeking candidates to provide advanced engineering support focused on enhancing operational efficiency and risk assessment accuracy. Candidates will apply diverse engineering and operations principles to perform calculations, analysis, research, and design tasks. Responsibilities include supporting system upgrades and designing tools used by system operators. This position requires sound judgment in prioritizing tasks and adapting standard engineering techniques to complex problems. Candidates will provide expert technical support and direction in evaluating systems and equipment, implementing engineering technologies, and ensuring compliance with design standards. The role may be filled by individuals with an engineering degree and background, or by those with strong theoretical and design experience who do not hold a formal engineering degree. Additional responsibilities may include technical project management such as scoping, scheduling, budgeting, and oversight of complex projects to meet cost and time objectives. Candidates will also contribute to initiatives like Night VARS, Power BI projects, and the development of new tools to support system operations. Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience * Strong directly related experience: * 0-2+ years for Associate Engineer or Engineering Technical Specialist I * 2+ years for Engineer or Engineering Technical Specialist II * 5-6+ years for Senior Engineer or Engineering Technical Specialist III * 8+ years for Staff Engineer * Oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing) * Effective decision-making skills * Ability to interpret codes, regulations, and practices * Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems * Ability to process information quickly and manage multiple tasks * Ability to work effectively independently or in a team environment * Computer skills and application of software programs (e.g., Matlab, Excel) Education Requirements Engineer Series: Bachelor's in Engineering required. Must meet one of the following criteria: * Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or * Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or * Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math, or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or * Hold or have previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license. The salary range for this position starts at $38.51 effective June 1st, 2025 and progresses in accordance with the union contract. This internship is an hourly, paid position that will average 8-40 hours per week. Duties will require a mix of office-based and field work.
