Role Responsibilities: Assist with projects in occupational safety or health, or environmental aspects, which may include (EHS) risk assessment tools to identify exposures to health and safety hazards or environmental aspects that can result in harm to people, property, or the environment; Conduct data activities and process work required to demonstrate compliance with the site's environmental regulatory requirements; Process data related to environmental, health and safety events such as injuries, fires, spills, near miss incidents and internal inspections; May participate in the site's annual EHS self-assessment to assess compliance with applicable regulatory and company standards Minimum Qualifications: Currently enrolled undergraduate in an accredited degree program pursuing a bachelor's degree in: Occupational Safety or Occupational Health, EHS, Environmental Science, Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics or a related field Experience in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) Preferred Qualifications: Minimum 3.0 out of a 4.0 cumulative GPA Current undergraduate junior/3rd year (rising senior) Energetic self-starter who seeks innovative solutions Excellent oral and written communications skills Strong prioritization and problem-solving abilities Prior internship, work experience or collegiate project work in occupational health and safety Relocation: This position is not eligible for relocation assistance. Overall Description: This internship opportunity is for individuals who have a strong passion for gaining corporate partnership activation and service experience in a high-pace, motorsports and events-oriented environment. This position will be responsible for assisting the Corporate Partnerships team with relationship building, execution and overall management of the team's corporate partnerships throughout their semester. Interns may work during weekends and potentially travel to either help promote CMS events or help our sister tracks' events. The Corporate Partnerships department involves working with clients and sponsors on a national, regional and local level. The department focuses on fully developing integrated marketing partnerships between the client and the speedway. This department seeks 2-3 individuals who are outgoing, creative, highly motivated, can-do individuals and embody our company principles; 1. Care for Your Teammates 2. Be Remarkable 3. These individuals will partake in some of our many events which include two NASCAR weekends, Super Motocross, two NHRA weekends, World of Outlaws Dirt Racing World Finals, various Music Festivals, Monster Truck Bash, our annual AutoFair and Heritage Car Show, Speedway Christmas and many other ancillary events. SUMMARY: The Event Operations Intern performs and supervises a variety of duties in the Event Operations Department of Charlotte Motor Speedway Operations; and performs related duties as assigned. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Reports to the Senior Manager of Event Operations to ensure that all events are serviced by pre/post cleaning, event setup and teardown, and facility maintenance projects Responsible for pre/post event trash pickup duties and hauling waste Involved in event setup equipment including barricades, parking cones, bleachers, and fencing Involved in track setup operations including setting barriers, track asphalt maintenance, and painting Performs pressure washing duties around property including grandstands, concourses, sidewalks buildings, and other facility areas Completes work order assignments in a timely manner Work events and perform various duties as needed to make event successful Performs preventative maintenance on all department equipment to ensure efficiency Assembles and moves furniture along with other equipment around property Attends Manager's and other staff meetings and is involved in logistical planning discussions Assists management in production and review of vendor RFPs Helps to ensure vendors are meeting the parameters of their contractual agreements Inventory review of Operational assets such as bike rack, trash receptacles, fencing, etc. Production of word or excel documents as needed by management Provide management with 360 feedback on workflow efficiency and performance of all fellow operations crew members Assist with the setup and teardown of all events as directed by management Assists other departments when needed Other duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of event operations for a large scale multi-function event complex Knowledge of a variety of operations equipment including pressure washers, forklifts, tractors, etc. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Skills in following safety practices and recognizing hazards. Skill in using hand and power tools. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with CMS staff and the customers. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work involves moderate to heavy work in all types of weather. There is frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, lift heavy objects up to 50 pounds and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday. This position is 29 hours a week plus additional hours and possible overtime during our event seasons. It is required that the position is available to work all three shifts during event weekends. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or GED and one (1) year event operations experience in a large event facility, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Involvement in a College degree seeking track that requires an internship in the Facility Management or Event Management field. Must be at least 21 years old with a valid driver's license is required, and a clear driving record is required. This is a paid internship at a hourly rate.
