The Fergus Falls WMD consists of 50,000+ acres of Waterfowl Production Areas across 5 counties in western Minnesota. The district, in coordination with several partners, works to restore and reconstruct Northern Tallgrass Prairie habitat and lost or degraded wetlands within the prairie pothole region. We are in search of a seasonal technician to help us carry out general refuge operations and habitat management functions. Tasks will include waterfowl and vegetation surveys, habitat restoration (site preparation, seeding), invasive species detection and removal, and assisting in the water management, haying, and grazing programs, general maintenance and repair, some heavy equipment (agricultural tractor) work, and assisting with other programs where necessary. Location Fergus Falls, MN Schedule March 16, 2026 - November 13, 2026 Key Duties and Responsibilities • General maintenance and repair of infrastructure and facilities. Clearing vegetation, water control structure maintenance, signage and displays. • Assist and individually conduct surveys as a part of our biological sciences program. This includes a visual waterfowl survey and several vegetation monitoring surveys. • Assist in the water management across the district. Help record keep for the Water Management Plan, survey water control structures, and manipulate water levels where possible. Restorations occur on newly acquired parcels and on existing Waterfowl Production Areas. Help review plans and learn about how to carry out a restoration program. • Assists in educational outreach and education programs through the prairie Wetlands Learning Center. Here eastern deciduous hardwoods, northern coniferous forests and western tallgrass prairie converge - creating a rich assemblage of both plants and animals. Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge was established as a refuge and breeding ground for migratory birds and other wildlife by Executive Order 7902, dated May 31, 1938. A portion of the refuge is congressionally designated wilderness and half of the refuge lies within the boundaries of the White Earth Nation Reservation. The right person for this job will be able to work with people of different ages and backgrounds, treating all patrons with respect and a positive attitude. The main responsibility of a lifeguard is keeping everyone safe from harm, so excellent skills in the water are essential. A successful applicant will be considered for swimming lessons as well, and good communication skills are greatly appreciated. The position of a lifeguard should not be treated lightly, so we're looking for a qualified and responsible individual who can meet all our requirements. Main Responsibilities of a Lifeguard: Oversee all activities and identifying safety issues. Recognize signs of danger. Perform first aid procedures as necessary. Be in the pool area and in uniform 10 minutes before you shift begins. Wear designated uniform on duty (swimsuit, shorts and Holmes Center lifeguard staff shirt). Be aware of schedule and schedule changes. Greet users cordially, making an effort to learn and use their names. Record attendance accurately and in a timely manner. Direct traffic during lap swim.
