Trisha Blizzard

Doula, DoulaVersity

My journey into the world of birth support began in 2007 when I became a trained doula. Since then, I have had the privilege of attending over 400 births, each one a profound lesson in strength, resilience, and the magic of new life. My experiences at these births deepened my commitment to supporting expectant mothers and their families, which led me to become a childbirth educator in 2009. Over the years, I have taught more than 1,000 couples, preparing them not just for childbirth but for the transformational journey of parenthood.

Recognizing a need for accessible, comprehensive doula and childbirth educator training, I founded DoulaVersity in 2017. Our mission is to empower individuals with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to support expectant mothers effectively. At DoulaVersity, we believe that education is key to effective support, which is why our certification program is designed to be thorough yet flexible. Students must complete 16 online modules, read three foundational texts, and engage with three 2-hour educational videos. Additionally, they are tasked with building a community resource list to assist them in providing localized support. Our curriculum ensures that every certified doula is not only equipped with foundational knowledge but also understands the practical aspects of providing excellent care.

The program we offer at DoulaVersity does not require any educational prerequisites other than being over the age of 16, making it accessible to a wide range of aspiring doulas. Our students can complete their certification in an average of six months, though we accommodate all learning paces. This flexibility allows our doulas to immerse themselves fully in the material, enhancing their understanding and application of the skills they learn. By fostering a supportive, comprehensive educational environment, DoulaVersity is committed to training doulas and childbirth educators who are well-prepared to make a significant difference in the birthing experiences of families they support.
