As part of the EmpowER DVM Mentorship program, you will experience a combination of didactic learning and hands-on clinical work including achieving individual learning goals under the supervision of our DVM Mentorship Director. Your independent responsibilities will increase as you progress through your first year, while still maintaining consistent access to the support of your mentor and peers. We view solid mentorship in a real clinical setting as a critical step to becoming a successful emergency veterinarian.
This program focuses on building skills in an emergency setting including:

Navigating complex in-hospital cases
Communicating effectively with clients, colleagues, and rDVMs
Teamwork, compassion, and fair treatment of staff at all levels.

Schedule, and Commitment:
This mentorship program is a three-year opportunity with the first year being a structured mentorship.
After successfully completing your first year, you will transition to working as a Staff Veterinarian for your second and third year.
As a mentee and a staff doctor you will work an average of 12 shifts per month, with a mix of shifts including days, swings, and overnights. Your mentorship year will require greater flexibility in scheduling to ensure you can be paired with an appropriate level of support.
Compensation:
Salary for the first year is $110k
After successfully completing the first year of the program, you will transition to a production/salary compensation model when switching to status as an ER staff doctor. Our ER staff doctors currently earn an average of $215k+/year.

What we are looking for:
You have a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent from an AVMA-accredited school of veterinary medicine or certification through ECFVG and the ability to be licensed in the state of Oregon.

This externship is geared towards students interested in applying to our post-graduation rotating internship or ECC residency.
DoveLewis is a different kind of veterinary hospital. As a non-profit with no private equity or corporate investors, we have built a collaborative community that is dedicated to serving every animal and every person who cares for them. Join our AAHA-accredited and VECCS Level 1 medical center that includes a brand-new, state-of-the-art building for our specialty departments, a 3 Tesla MRI, and 64-slice CT. We also have several community funds to help low-income families, lost pets, abused animals, and wildlife access emergency care. Externships last two weeks and start every other Monday. Students work on the floor four days a week, 10-12 hours daily. DoveLewis Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Hospital is hiring a full-time Level 1 Veterinary Assistant to join our Exotics team!
Level 1 Veterinary Assistants are responsible for assisting the exotics department by providing support for animal restraint, cleanliness, and general flow maintenance within the department. A genuine love of and respect for all animals is required, as is an appreciation of the human-animal bond.
About This Position:
As a Veterinary Assistant Level 1 (VA1) you are responsible for providing our clients with a top-notch experience as well as responsible for assisting the veterinarians and technicians as needed with animal restraint, maintaining a clean and sterile work environment, laundry services, stocking the hospital, assisting with lab work, providing aftercare for deceased animals, performing surgery prep, and other miscellaneous tasks. This position builds on the skills developed as a Kennel Assistant while increasing your responsibility for client interactions, and more advanced technical skills including restraining animals for procedures, helping with lab work, and triaging and discharging patients. This is an ideal starting point for someone who already has some experience in the veterinary field or a high level of customer service experience and animal handling comfort in a related field such as a grooming.
Wage Range: Overnight and weekend differential pay is available for applicable shifts.
$19.95-$22 hourly for Veterinary Assistant Level 1
Schedule:
Veterinary Assistants (Level 1) work 3/4 rotating schedules with 10 hours shifts. This means you have a consistent schedule that makes planning the rest of your life easy, and you get 3 or 4 days off in a row every week! DoveLewis is a 24/7/365 emergency hospital with day, swing, and overnight shifts and requires the ability to work at least some of every weekend and holidays.
What are we looking for in a candidate?
A genuine love of and respect for all animals is required, as is an appreciation of the human-animal bond.
Experience or education equivalent to a High School Diploma is required.
Valid Oregon driver's license for driving the DoveLewis transport van is strongly preferred.
Understanding of animal behavior and knowledge of safe animal handling and transport practices.
1+ year experience working in animal care work such as at a veterinary clinic, kennel, shelter, grooming facility, or animal daycare is preferred for all positions and required for Veterinary Assistant Level 1.
Any suitable combination of experience or education may substitute for the above.

Schedule
We are considering two options for the Financial Coordinator 1 position:
The first is four 10s (7a-5p). The second is five 8s (7a-3p).
The proposed schedule for the Financial Coordinator 1 position will include one weekend day per week.
Job duties will include, but are not limited to:
* Audit and verify client charges for accuracy.
* Prepare and update cost-of-care estimates.
* Process client and hospital payments.
* Review invoices and resolve routine billing issues.
* Track missed charges and help improve financial workflows.
* Communicate payment options and financial updates to clients.
* Assist with special projects and administrative support.
Qualifications
* Experience in customer service, finance, or a veterinary/medical setting preferred.
* Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
* Excellent communication and organizational skills.
* Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism.
* Comfortable using accounting software and Microsoft Office.
Education and Experience
* General knowledge of billing, accounts receivable and payment processing.
* Minimum of two years of experience working in customer service, with customer accounts, medical billing or equivalent.
* Experience in a veterinary facility and/or familiarity with veterinary terminology, medications, procedures a bonus!
