Wesley College, which opened as a preparatory school in 1873, has a long standing relationship with the United Methodist Church.
During the 1912-13 General Assembly of Delaware, House Bill 194 authorized the establishment of the 12-bed Milford Emergency Hospital in downtown Milford.
In 1972 another expansion upgraded outpatient services and expanded emergency services.
In 1996, the Outpatient Services Center opened on the southwest corner of the hospital.
In September 2003, an affiliation agreement was signed with the University of Pennsylvania Health System to provide cardiac surgery services at Kent General Hospital.
In 2004, construction was completed that enlarged Emergency and Trauma Services and enhanced Diagnostic Imaging.
In 2005, the History Wall and Tree of Life are dedicated at Milford Memorial.
In 2006, the Total Joint Center opens.
In 2008, the Retail Stores at Bayhealth were unveiled and a new Ambulatory Pharmacy and Wound Care Center opened.
In 2014, Bayhealth announced plans to build a state-of-the-art health campus in Milford.
Opening in 2018, it will include an inpatient hospital, emergency department and vast outpatient services.
In 2019, Bayhealth Milford Memorial closed and patient care began at the Bayhealth Hospital, Sussex Campus.
