DPR Construction exists to build great things. That is the physical structures we build as well as the people who work for us. With 3,000 people in the office and another 3,000 out in the field swinging hammers the company is able to expand its scope of work to impact the healthcare industry, higher education, commercial office, advanced technology, and life sciences. The impact that the company has throughout the country has been noticed, as DPR is now recognized as the 10th largest contractor by revenue.

Diving Into the Values at DPR

The company's core values are the pillars of the foundation of DPR. "We really impress these values throughout all of our offices within DPR, as well as our current employees and employees we seek to hire," said Jorinne Jackson, who oversees the HR function for DPR. "I can't stress enough the importance we place on our core values."

  • Integrity : When an employee at DPR says they're going to do something, they're going to do it. It's important to the company that everyone carries that mantra because it helps build a reputation.
  • Enjoyment : The company really works hard to create an environment that is enjoyable for the employees who work there. The goal is for team members to enjoy the work they do. They don't just mean enjoyment that stems from a snack-stocked kitchen or an open office space that allows for great collaboration (although DPR does provide these things). They want their employees to come into work with the mindset that they want to be there.
  • Uniqueness : While the company is in the construction industry, it's important to note that they are so unique to what you would typically find in the construction industry. They have approached business in general unlike any other general contractor out there. They don't approach it with the brick-and-mortar mentality. Instead, they prefer to take a step back. Many general contractors approach building the same way they've been doing for the last 200-300 years. DPR in unique in the fact that it tries to incorporate technology from a building standpoint.
  • Ever Forward : The company is constantly looking to advance their methods and approaches to management in not only processes but people as well. They're constantly asking themselves how they can be better at managing. In that regard, they're continually moving ever forward.
  • DPR's long-time mission is to be the most admired company by 2030. This mission not only focuses on the company's growth but also on what they could be doing differently in their processes. From incorporating new technology into the business to updating its best people practices, this mission relies heavily on its core values. "A big part of our journey is making sure our people are on this journey with us to achieve this goal," Jackson said.

    The Culture at DPR

Building an Environment Free of Boundaries

One of the top things they look for in employees is people who have a strong entrepreneurial spirit. But in order to have a solid team, DPR knows the importance of trusting those people. "You can have a bunch of people who are entrepreneurial-minded, but if the company doesn't trust those individuals to pursue those entrepreneurial opportunities it doesn't go very far," said Jackson. "There's so much trust in our employees to make things happen."

As an example, the company recently had a project manager that stood up and said he had a strong passion for social responsibility. This is the part where trust comes into play. Leadership told him that if that was the direction he wanted his career to go in they would support him.

"We have done that on numerous occasions where we allow for people's passions to come to reality," said Jackson.

At DPR, there is no boundary to how far you can go. Especially with the no business titles policy. The company believes that labeling titles to people limited them to that specific role. Without the titles, there is truly no limit to what you can do at DPR. In addition, the company sports an open office environment to allow for constant collaboration. They pride themselves on being one of the first construction companies in the industry to implement an open office environment.

    The Benefits at DPR

    Constructing Perks Everyone Will Love

DPR offers all of the core benefits that you can think of and more. With a telehealth benefit, you can access health-related services and information anywhere. The company also offers:

  • Around the World: For every 5 years of service at DPR, employees are given a catalog to choose a gift. Past gifts include a camera and a luggage set. This is DPR's way of thanking its employees.
  • PTO: Employees start off with 2 weeks of paid time off with an extra 2 weeks every 5 years. An added bonus is that you can use all of your vacation time at once if you wanted to take an extended vacation.
  • Holiday Shut Down - This is probably one of the most appreciated benefit at DPR. Right around the Christmas and New Year's Eve holidays, DPR shuts down its offices entirely so employees can actually enjoy what some people see as the most stressful time of the year.
  • Between the no boundaries culture and this list of great benefits, it's easy to see why so many people love working at DPR.
