Draftsman/designer job description

Works under the direction of a foreman, assist skilled workers in performing their assigned duties, and performs a large variety of other duties. Ability to interpret shop sketches, identifies material listed on sketches, and fabricates pipe spools from detailed sketches.
Functional Requirements:
Read and sign off on JSA; gather material listed on sketch to fabrication table; record heat numbers from fittings to the sketch if required; lay out for inside and outside diameter nozzle attachments; prep pipe and fittings with pneumatic grinders for fit up; use a plasma or oxy/fuel cutting torch; clean out inside diameter with compressed air after fit up; math skills required to add and subtract dimensions, figure inside/outside arc of ells, figure outside diameter rolls for spool orientation such as attachments, flange two holes; and maintains a clean work area.
Qualification Standards:
Preferably one (1) to four (4) years of experience in specified skill
Pre-employment on-site qualification test
Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation
OSHA approved corrective eye wear (Z87)
Job site "Personal Protective Equipment" requirements (hearing protection, safety glasses, long sleeve shirt, gloves, steel toe boots, etc)

Your Impact

The CAD Draftsman provides both strategic and operational support to service center managers throughout the organization.

* Work with engineers to prepare original drawings and revisions of natural gas, municipal, private and industrial civil engineering projects using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other software.
* Provide technical support to other engineers and draftspersons as needed.
* Work at the direction of the Project Manager.
* Assist in preparation of promotional materials as requested.
* Provide other services including surveying and inspection on an as-needed basis.
* Attend staff meetings as required.
* Other duties as assigned.

Who You Are:

Required Qualifications

* Three plus years of experience drafting and designing civil engineering projects for natural gas systems, municipal, private, or industrial projects.
* Should have AS degree or certificate of completion for computer aided drafting.

Top Must Have Skills:
1. Must have a certificate in AutoCAD.
2. Must have an Associate degree in a technical field with an emphasis on computer aided design applications such as AutoCAD
3. AutoCAD drafting experience is required

Top Nice to Have Skills:
1. Experience with AutoCAD 2020
2. The ability to produce drawings from designer notes and sketches.
3. Electrical Technician background.

IDEAL CANDIDATE BACKGROUND:
Electrical Technician background with an Electric Utility.

Soft Skills Needed:
1. The contractor will have demonstrated proficiency with a computer and associated drafting software, such as Windows and AutoCAD, as well as the use of electronic drafting tools.

Detailed Job Description: Drafting Technician

The Drafting Group is responsible for producing drawings and data that clearly depict the physical transmission and distribution substation infrastructure, as well as the engineering parameters that support their design. This is a support role that operates under limited supervision. This position will use AutoCAD to develop structural and electrical drawings needed to build electric substations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Client is currently seeking a Contract Drafting Technician for the Substation Engineering Department (Transmission Operations Center – Cayce, SC). The Substation Engineering Department is comprised of engineers, technicians, and drafting personnel engaged in the engineering and design of electric substations

This position produces drawings and data that clearly and accurately depict the physical transmission and distribution substation infrastructure, as well as the engineering parameters that support their design. This position is responsible for providing drafting services that support engineering and design requirements. Drafting services include preparation of detailed system, equipment or component drawings; as-built drawings; electronic drawing and document control; and drawing revisions. This position requires use of manual and electronic drafting tools. Drafting personnel must be proficient with a computer and associated software, such as AUTOCAD, Windows, and electronic drawing management systems such as ADEPT.

QUALIFICATIONS

The contractor will have demonstrated proficiency with a computer and associated drafting software, such as Windows and AutoCAD, as well as the use of electronic drafting tools. The contractor must also be able to collaborate with varied disciplines both internally and externally as well as operate within the company's team environment.
