Material Handler Primary Responsibilities:


Operate a sit-down forklift to handle and move materials Safely and efficiently handle materials received, stored, and shipped through the assembly plant Keep workstations loaded with production materials Operate material handling equipment (e.g. hand truck, pallet jack etc.). Understand, support, and implement the company Housekeeping, Safety and Quality policies and procedures into daily work habits Other duties as assigned

Work Environment:

The work involves moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g. working around moving parts, machines, fumes, or irritant chemicals. May be required to use protective clothing, or gear such as masks, goggles, gloves, or shields.


Physical Demands:

The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods both indoors and outdoors of remaining stationary, traversing spaces, repositioning to reach and use tools, and moving a minimum of 50 lbs assisted or unassisted.

A Materials Handler 1 (Forklift Operator) is responsible for storing, moving, and handling materials. Working as a materials handler doesn't require formal education but does entail extensive on-the-job training. A materials handler has a very structured work environment to minimize safety risks. Each job is planned in detail and safety issues are addressed before a job begins.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The list of essential duties and responsibilities, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the task to be performed. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein is such duties are a logical assignment to the position.
• Stage product for use.
• Maintain inventory controls.
• Powered Industrial Truck certified.
• Feed the lines.
• Follows all safety procedures and regulations including wearing special protective gear and disposing of materials as regulated by law.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Able to communicate and take direction from the lead and/or the supervisor.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

A high school diploma or GED certification and be at least 18 years of age, required. Previous Materials handling experience required.

Must be forklift certified within 90 days.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent to draw and interpret bar graphs. Must be able to "side shift" and have worked with stand-up forklifts and extended forks.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is subject to standing for prolonged periods; frequently walks, grasps, lifts, holds, or feels objects; occasionally stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls. The employee frequently is required to use manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination when working and handling products or machinery. The employee is subject to assist and support up to 90 pounds with varying amounts of assistance on a reoccurring basis. The employee is required to have corrected vision and hearing within normal range and the ability to operate equipment. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee could have work conditions that are extremely cold or extremely hot. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. **Position Description:**

+ Comply and perform proper methods of loading and unloading various cargos, including hazardous and nonhazardous materials, to include connecting and disconnecting loading and unloading hoses, pressure hose, and product pump; monitoring gauges; opening and closing valves; and gauging depth of product in cargo tank and/or storage tanks.

+ Ensure the correct gallons and grades are safely being loaded and delivered at the correct location.

+ Safely drive to and from various locations as dispatched.

+ Provide fantastic customer service.

+ Follow all Department of Transportation safety regulations, all loading facility rules, and all applicable laws at all times.

+ Maintain, clean, and perform regular inspections of all company owned and leased equipment.

+ Maintain qualification to drive through mandatory physicals, drug screens, license renewals, etc.

+ Attend mandatory safety meetings.

**Required Qualifications - Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:**

+ Knowledge and Skills Class A commercial driver's license with hazmat and tanker endorsements.

+ Two years of CDL driving experience with hazmat and safe record.

+ Maintain qualification to drive as mandated by the Department of Transportation.

+ Thorough understanding of hazardous materials pick-up and delivery procedures.

+ Maintain authorization to load and unload product at facilities we conduct business with once authorized in the training process.
