Under the general supervision of the Building & Grounds Supervisor and in collaboration with a Nursing Supervisor (Assistant Director of Nursing), this position provides transportation and physical assistance for members' off-campus appointments. In addition, the position is responsible for minor upkeep and maintenance of vehicles such as tire pressure, fluid levels, fuel, and mechanic appointments. On occasion, the Motor Vehicle Operator-Light transports members to and from on-campus activities and picks up medications or supplies. Salary Information
Starting wage is $16.67 per hour.
Motor Vehicle Operator-Light is in pay schedule-pay range 03-08. Pay will be set in accordance with the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan in effect at the time of hire. Starting pay for current State employees may vary based on applicable provisions in the Compensation Plan.
Job Details
This position works Monday through Friday, 8-hour shifts between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. The work schedule will be set after hire with approval of the position's supervisor.
This position works a weekend rotation on call and may be required to adjust hours or work overtime to meet the Home's operational needs.
Job duties require the ability to lift 50 pounds; frequently bend, lift, push, pull; and assist members weighing up to 350 pounds with ambulatory limitations, including moving the member in a wheelchair.
Due to the nature of the positions, WDVA will conduct a criminal background check prior to an offer of employment.
Employment in the positions is contingent upon passing a pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) skin test.
A 12-month probationary period may be required.
Qualifications
This position requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that meets the standards for operating a State of Wisconsin Fleet vehicle.
The driver must:
Have a valid driver's license; and
Have a minimum of two year's licensed driving experience; and
Be 18 years of age of older
AND
Have a driving record that does not show:
Three or more moving violations and/or at fault accidents in the past two years; or
An Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) or Driving Under the Influence (DUI) citation within the past 12 months; or
A suspension or revocation of driver's license
In addition to the fleet requirement, the required qualification that will be reviewed in the first step of the process is experience:
Safely transporting passengers (e.g., picking up, dropping off, assisting with mobility efforts, staying on schedule without rushing or speeding, attaching securements, logging rides, etc.)

While the nature of our business causes frequent schedule fluctuations, our typical driving hours are between 5AM and 5PM. Drivers are expected to have open availability on their scheduled day to work. While we aim to have everyone home by 5PM, we cannot guarantee it as appointments can run late.
You will use a company provided vehicle and be required to pick the vehicle up at our office in Horicon at the start of each shift and return it at the conclusion of your shift.

Superb customer service. We typically serve elderly and/or disabled populations. You will greatly impact this person's day and it is our mission to create a wonderful experience for them.
Great attendance and punctuality. Have you ever waited around for someone only to find out they weren't coming? It's quite the disappointing feeling. Do you know anyone on dialysis, chemo or other life sustaining treatments and what they go through if they miss an appointment? Have you ever had to scramble to clean up someone else's mess because they decided not to show up to work? All of these are very real problems that affect our team and our passengers when we aren't doing our part to hire reliable drivers.
Clean caregiver, criminal and driving record. Due to the responsibility of this position, transporting lives in your vehicle, our contracts with the companies we partner with state that we must run thorough background checks on all of our drivers. You must be able to pass this check.
Ability to pass a drug screen. Unfortunately use of CBD oil for anxiety, sleep and other legal reasons cannot be differentiated on the drug screen so this would disqualify you.
Use of your smartphone. Your timekeeping, communication with the office and trip performance will all be done on your smartphone using company apps.
The physical ability to walk, bend, push, pull and lift. You will need to walk in and out of hospitals and other facilities to assist your passenger to the vehicle. Sometimes you may need to push them in a wheel-chair or lift their walker into the vehicle.
