The earliest description of solid carbon dioxide was given by Charles Tilorie, who in 1834 opened a pressurized container with liquid carbon dioxide.
In 1835, the scientist was observing a metal cylinder containing a large quantity of liquid carbon dioxide, waiting for it to evaporate.
Historians agree that dry ice was first observed by a French chemist named Charles Thilorier in 1835.
In 1897, an Englishman named Herbert Samuel Elworthy received a patent for solid carbon dioxide that he used to create soda water for his whiskey.
In 1924, Thomas B. Slate applied for a US patent for the commercial sale of dry ice.
Schraff’s stores was the first customer in 1926 which was a confectionery store that dealt with Eskimo Pie ice cream.
The solution was dry ice and by 1927 many ice cream manufacturers started using the product from dry ice Corporation Of America.
In 1929, they teamed up with liquid carbonic to build 17 dry ice manufacturing plants all across the United States.
In 1931, Birdseye frozen foods started as a big name in dry ice supply.
They were also able to sell their solid dry ice product to railway companies as a cooling alternative to regular ice, which took hold in the railway industry in 1932.
