- Represent public-safety and public-sector employees in disciplinary, benefits, and employment-related matters.
- Handle cases involving wrongful termination, harassment, retaliation, discrimination, and workplace misconduct.
- Advocate before state and federal courts, the California State Personnel Board, CalPERS, local personnel boards, and pension systems.
- Analyze complex federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and collective bargaining agreements.
- Draft legal briefs, administrative submissions, discovery, motions, and settlement agreements.
- Provide strategic legal counsel and maintain strong client communication.

Purpose: The Area Director is responsible for the coordination and overall operation of UCCE programs in cooperation with county governments in Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado and Tuolumne counties, and in the future with Alpine county.
Responsibilities:
Act as a liaison between UCCE, Boards of Supervisors and County Administrative Officers as appropriate.
Serve as the chair of the University of California Cooperative Extension Central Sierra MCP Advisory Council. Hold twice yearly meetings of this Advisory Council.
Secure county budgets and resources that grow UCCE presence and efforts in the region.
Build relationships and synergies to deploy UCCE research to address regional needs.
Supervision and/or oversight of UCANR employees.
Understand and communicate value of UCCE impact to county partners and others.
Oversight and administration of UCCE educational and applied research programs.
Hire and manage personnel.
Provide direction and leadership to UCCE academic and support staff.
Mentor, manage and evaluate academic personnel.

Strong background in management, administration or similar experience including, but not limited to, business operations, budget and fiscal management, human resources, conflict resolution, multidisciplinary teams, project management, facilities planning, etc.
Demonstrated experience with applied research and educational programs, and working with academics.
Knowledge and experience in supporting volunteer and youth programs.
Understanding of the UC ANR mission.
Demonstrated record of skills in leadership, strategic planning, program evaluation and supervisory skills that motivate and develop staff.

Physically be in each of the four MCP counties for three full days of work monthly, as well as, one day per week in each county to meet with stakeholders. Safety Observer
Cameron Park, CA
As a Safety Observer, you will be responsible for implementing, monitoring, and assisting in creating safety programs within the vegetation management & tree trimming industry. Duties will be performed within the minimum approach distance of energized utility lines and critical infrastructure.
**Supervisor Duties** : No
**Pay:** $37.00/hr - $45.00/hr
**Responsibilities and Requirements:**
+ Work within a safety team to complete tasks and program requirements
+ Assist the Safety Supervisor or Manager as required
+ Assist in creating documents and training for company safety programs and policies
+ Implement and monitor company safety programs and policies
+ Present trainings, briefings, and presentations.
+ Maintain requirements and certification to work within the minimum approach distance of energized utility lines
+ Maintain knowledge of applicable OSHA, ANSI, and vendor safety requirements
+ Assist when required by the Safety Supervisor, Safety Manager, or Management in conducting investigations (root cause analysis), notifications and creating reports of safety incidents or violations
+ Attend incident, safety and investigation meetings as required
+ Coach crews on safety practices and when safety violations are identified. Write up safety violations are required.
+ Maintain knowledge of safe tree trimming and vegetation management practices
+ Maintain knowledge of safe heavy equipment operations
+ Conduct in the field assessments of crews, equipment, and procedures
+ Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on safety programs, training, and evaluations as needed
+ Conduct risk assessments and apply mitigation techniques
+ Utilize safety software and programs to report and track compliance with vendor, state, and federal requirements.
+ Conduct trend analysis of industry and company safety incidents and violations
+ Must be able to work outdoors, year-round in varying environments
+ Must be able to work in, around and amongst poisonous plants and noxious vegetation
+ Other tasks as required
**Probationary Period:**
1. 90-day probation period
**Travel:**
+ This position is expected to travel to project sites and locations within California (Operating Area)
**Work Environment:**
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to extreme heat and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme cold. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

**Minimum Qualifications:**
+ Education: High School Diploma
+ Experience: 3-5 years of experience in Utility line clearance and Right-of-Way (ROW) vegetation management operations
+ ISA Certified Arborist or ISA Certified Utility Arborist (ISA)
+ Certified Tree Safety Professional (CTSP)
+ OSHA 30
+ Bilingual in Spanish highly desired
+ Valid Driver License
