Plan and provide advanced and/or specialized nursing care for patients in accordance with guidelines established within the Discipline of Nursing Clinical Ladder Program and the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
The position will provide local level leadership in the areas of administration, education, informatics and quality.
Work Hours & Shifts:
Full-Time - 40 hours per week

Duties and Responsibilities
Identify care needs for patient populations across the continuum of care.
Collaborate and provide leadership in the development of standards of care, patient/family education and staff education to address the needs of specific populations.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary team and provide leadership within the delivery of patient care.
Provide leadership in educational activities, departmental committees, research projects and other health-related projects.
Provide evaluation, direction and guidance in the proper selection, use, care and control of material resources.
Appraise quality and effectiveness of material and equipment and collaborate with appropriate departments to assist with vendor selection and feedback on performance.
Guide the professional growth of others across the continuum of care through role modeling, coaching and/or mentoring.
This may include designing orientation modules, primary precepting of senior nursing students.
Provide leadership at a departmental, entity, community or regional/national level for initiatives focused on improving the quality of care for populations of patients and growth of others.
Conduct performance reviews.
Effectively recommend personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, terminations and other related activities.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Leadership/Regulatory: Monitor clinical practice and ensure compliance to practice standards and regulatory standards. Collaborate with unit/clinic leadership to coach and mentor nursing colleagues. Influence recruitment and development of staff.
Education: Plan and deliver in house education sessions or collaborate with subject matter experts. Keep up to date with evidence-based nursing practices and adult education. Assess educational needs of staff. Partners with clinical nurse educator and clinical nurse specialist to address unit educational needs.
Informatics: Serve as a superuser for clinical information systems. Disseminate and communicate information to staff regarding adoption of or changes to technology. Facilitate service tickets and troubleshoot efficiency concerns with staff. Provide training and technology education support on the unit. Serve as a change agent and facilitate adoption of new technology on the unit.
Quality/Research/Innovation: Collaborate with subject matter experts to analyze patient care data to identify trends and areas for improvement. Participate in multidisciplinary committees focused on quality and patient safety. Provide guidance and support to nursing staff in quality assurance and best practices. Engage in research and innovation initiatives to develop new methodologies and technologies for enhancing patient care.
Required Qualifications
Education
Work requires graduation from an accredited nursing program with a BSN degree.
Experience
Applicants must meet all requirements set forth by the DUHS Career Ladder Program for level IV.
Emergency Department experience is required
Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification
Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Department Profile:
The 7300 Cardiology Stepdown Unit at Duke University Hospital is comprised of 31 beds. Cardiology Step Down provides care for cardiology medicine patients with a range of diagnoses. The patient population includes but is not limited to the care of acute coronary syndrome, post cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology procedures, dysrhythmias, heart failure, heart transplant workups and congenital heart disease. These patients require high acuity care and many come directly from the ICU, post procedures or outside hospitals requiring an increased level of care. Many times, these patients encompass a multi-system involvement which can include but is not limed to pulmonary, renal, endocrine and neurology. The environment is fast paced, challenging and a great place to promote and develop your critical thinking skills with many opportunities for professional growth. Our team is active in delivering exemplary care for each patient to ensure an excellent patient experience, every time.

Job Summary:
As a Clinical Nurse with Duke University Health System, you will make providing service your priority while caring for the whole person in a patient-centered atmosphere. The Clinical Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing and supervising direct and indirect total nursing care responsibilities. Utilizing the nursing process (assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating) in achieving the goals of the nursing department. All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within seven years of their start date

The 16-bed Emergency Department at the Hillsborough Campus delivers direct and indirect care for patients presenting with minor illnesses/ injuries to critical/ trauma injuries. Critical/traumatic injuries may require stabilization and potential transport to the Main ED / Trauma Level 1 Medical Center in Chapel Hill. This diverse environment in a community hospital setting contributes to a challenging and rewarding clinical environment for nurses and other members of the multi-disciplinary healthcare team.
This Emergency Department has been accredited by the American College of Emergency Medicine as a Level 2 Geriatric Emergency Department and is the first in North Carolina to receive this designation. Geriatric Emergency Departments embrace a variety of best practices that address common geriatric issues.
This is a 36 hour/week position, with variable shift schedule. This opportunity is for a new grad nurse who is currently in their final semester of nursing school or who have graduated from nursing school within the past 12 months of the anticipated start date and have worked as an RN for less than 6 months. It is expected that applicants will have a nursing (RN) license that allows them to practice in the state of North Carolina prior to the first day of employment.
