General Description of the Job Class
Apply ionizing radiation to the patient (inclusive of pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations) in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist and under the general supervision of the Chief Therapist.
Duties and Responsibilities of this Level
Deliver accurately the prescribed planned course of radiation therapy with minimal supervision.
Check prescription, diagnosis, chart and patient identification.
Explain procedure to patient, means of communication during treatment and procedure to follow if emergency arises during treatment. *Reinforce Radiation Oncologist's advice to patient regarding reactions to treatment and their care.
Prepare room and equipment for patient according to prescription regarding immobilization devices, field size, treatment distance, lead protection devices, etc.
Transfer patient safely to treatment couch, giving special care to catheters, intravenous drips, etc.
Check daily treatment time and delivers prescribed dose. *Maintain visual and audible communication with the patient during treatment.
Maintain patient markings. Observe patient for unusual reactions and events and report accurate information to the nursing staff and/or Radiation Oncologist.
Observe radiation safety measures for patient and personnel.
Perform simulations.
Assist in tumor localization procedures, preparation of immobilization devices, etc.
Assist in dosimetry procedures (i.e. Prescription calculations).
Obtain weekly port films and present such at chart rounds for review by Radiation Oncology staff.
Assume weekly on- call status on a rotation basis. (Applies to Duke staff therapist only)
Perform and document daily accelerator warm-up and QA procedures.(DRH and RCH)
Maintain records of daily treatment and other records as required by department quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
Perform mold room duties.(DRH and RCH)
Secure and maintain supplies.
Secure x-ray and lab reports as needed.
Report erratic operation of equipment to Chief Radiation therapist, Radiation Physicist and/or Medical Engineer.
Particpate in departmental PI (Performance Improvement) activities.
Assist in the hiring and orienting of new personnel.
Attend weekly QA rounds, monthly therapy meetings, and educational in-services.
Incorporate department and hospital policies and procedures into care provided.
Required Qualifications at this Level
Education
Satisfactory completion of a 24 month course in radiology technology and a 12 month course in radiation therapy technology; or
Satisfactory completion of a 24 month course in radiation therapy technology; or
Registered nurse who has satisfactorily completed a 12-month course in radiation therapy technology; or
Satisfactory completion of a Bachelor of Science degree in radiation therapy.
Experience
One year clinical training in Radiation Therapy.
Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification
Current licensure as required by state or national authority and/or certification or board eligible in Radiation Therapy by the American Registry of Radiology Technology.
Maintain ARRT certification in radiation therapy with a minimum of documented 12 hours of continuing education.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge in principles, practices and procedures involved in the operation of ionizing radiographic and radiation therapy equipment.
Knowledge of the human anatomy and proper positioning of the patient to provide treatment as prescribed.
Ability to administer CPR in a medical emergency.

Occ Summary
Develop, improve, or restore skills in activities of daily living, work or productive activities and play or leisure. Intervention involves therapeutic use of meaningful and purposeful occupations, adaptation of environments, promotion of health and wellness, graded tasks and activities as prerequisites to engagement in occupations, design, fabrication, application or training in the use of assistive technology or orthotic/prosthetic devices, application of physical agent modalities and application of ergonomic principles to the performance of occupations. Serve as a resource person for the team and department; participates in orientation of new staff therapists, physicians and other health personnel. The senior participates in teaching activities for occupational therapy and other health related students.

Develop and update appropriate plan of care in collaboration with the patient/family and related to the person's age and lifestyle with measurable long- and short-term goals and a defined D/C plan. Understand the role of occupational therapy in the context of the patient's age, total needs perspective and environment. Select and administer appropriate assessment and treatment techniques. Perform age appropriate competency skills in area of practice and with respect to individual patient's problems. Follow intervention protocols and revise interventions appropriately. Discharge patient when goals have been met or medical necessity is no longer indicated. Establish provisions for continuing services/follow up as needed. Meet competency skills for evaluations in area of practice. Consistently meet patient care productivity standard as established for job classification. Work cooperatively with supervisors and peers to contribute to the overall productivity of the team. Utilize support personnel (aides, senior aides, assistants) as appropriate and available. Actively support and participate in patient coverage efforts across all divisions within the department as necessary. Assess the learning needs and capabilities of patients and caregivers. Clinical Exercise Physiologist

that is integrated and compatible with the patient-focused medical goals. Primary responsibilities include development and implementation of the exercise prescription through initial patient assessment, exercise testing, monitoring, and evaluation of the patient's progress. The Clinical Exercise Physiologist uses evidence-based practice, protocols, and guidelines to determine exercise intervention. As part of the multidisciplinary team, the Clinical Exercise Physiologist is directly involved in patient care, patient education, program development, and quality performance improvement.
Responsibilities:
1. Assesses exercise therapy needs using standardized practice and critical thinking. Conducts exercise testing where applicable. Recognizes potential medical problems in all clinical situations and works in collaboration with the healthcare team to resolve these issues. Recognizes unsafe exercise situations and intervenes to ensure patient safety. Monitors response to exercise such as heart rate and rhythm, ratings of perceived exertion, blood pressures, blood glucoses, and O2 Sats. Attends and participates in patient care conferences.
2. Develops exercise prescriptions according to age, disease, medical history, comorbidities, and individual needs for patients. Implements, monitors, and modifies exercise prescriptions and individual treatment plans. Participates in reassessments and discharge planning process. Demonstrates clinical and age-specific competency as evidenced by clinical competency tools, forms, chart audits, tests, observation, etc.
3. Provides initial orientation to exercise program, educating patient on untoward signs and symptoms to recognize and report, safe use of exercise equipment, and program processes. Provides patient education on a variety of topics, such as disease management, safe exercise principles, risk factor modification, medication compliance, stress management, and behavior modification.
4. Documents all aspects of exercise therapy in the medical record. Demonstrates compliance with regulatory agency standards as evidenced by chart audits and organizational / regulatory agency surveys. Communicates effectively with physicians, medical director, other providers, and co-workers. Provides patient education using established behavioral change techniques. Communicates with patients in a clear and effective manner.
5. Assists in achieving compliance with the Joint Commission, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP), American Association for Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) or other accrediting agency standards to continuously improve the safety and quality of care to the public and to the organization's performance improvement. Performs business functions, such as management of resources in a cost-effective manner, and participates in compliance and quality performance improvement efforts to ensure that clinical care is safe and effective.
6. Attends and participates in staff meetings, and continuing education opportunities. Participates in quality improvement initiatives and cross training. Maintains professional competency and skills required for professional practice. Act as a resource for community-based exercise programs.

**$20,000.00 COMMITMENT INCENTIVE** The Physical Therapist evaluates and treats patients with neurological, medical or musculoskeletal disorders or conditions that impact activities of daily living, mobility and independence. Plans, organizes and directs patients in recommended activities that improve and manage their conditions and restore or increase functional independence, mobility and comfort.
Responsibilities:
1. Evaluates, plans and implements treatment programs for referred patients according to accepted principles and practices of physical therapy.
2. Designs an appropriate plan of care that integrates goals, treatment, outcomes, and discharge plan. Adjusts the care based on patient response and available evidence.
3. Collaborates with providers, nurses, other therapy providers and vendors.
4. Educates patient and family regarding treatment plans.
5. Provides services effectively and efficiently to minimize backups in patient flow.
6. Completes documentation pertaining to evaluation and treatment to meet regulatory requirements including interventions provided in combination with patient response.
7. Documents accurate charges on all patients on a timely basis.
8. Initiates appropriate schedule changes on a timely basis.
9. Provides in-service training to teammates as needed or directed.
10. Provides clinical instruction to students.
11. Provides supervision and direction to Physical Therapy Assistants, Rehab Services Technicians and secretarial teammates. Serves as a resource and role model.
12. Completes continuing education and in-service programs to meet regulatory and job requirements as applicable.
13. Actively participates in staff meetings and on committees as requested.
14. Participates in performance improvement activities.
15. Presents and promotes a professional demeanor at all times, establishes high standards of customer service and patient care, supports responsibility, pride, and teamwork, remains calm when under pressure, and offers reasonable solutions for problems. Relates to patients in a compassionate and sincere manner.
16. Demonstrates appropriate interaction with and provides recommended care and services to all patients. Exhibits knowledge and basic understanding regarding the needs of neonatal, adolescent, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients, and the cultural needs of all patients.
17. Applies knowledge of principles of standard precautions. Routinely and consistently uses PPE to avoid risk of exposure to self and others.

Education
Graduate of an accredited curriculum with a degree in Physical Therapy.
Licensure/ Certification
Current North Carolina State license as a PT or eligible.
BLS required.
Experience
Prior experience preferred, but new graduates encouraged to apply.

- Ability to motivate, educate and encourage patients.
- Knowledge of contemporary and evidence-based PT practices. Familiar with acute care, orthopedics, and neurologic patient treatment procedures.
