Job Location Duke GI Clinic of Cary, 100 Duke Health Cary Pl, Cary, NC Duke GI Clinic of Brier Creek, 10207 Cerny St, Raleigh, NC Job Summary We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider in our Duke GI Clinics located in Cary and Raleigh, NC to provide medical care to adult patients with both general gastrointestinal conditions and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Primary hours will be Monday through Friday, day shift, with hours flexible to meet the needs of the patients. Job Duties & Responsibilities * Record the history of present illness, past medical, family, and social history * Perform physical examinations * Establish and follow plan of care in conjunction with MD * Prescribe appropriate medications to a specialty pharmacy that will handle prior authorization and other necessary paperwork; order refills as needed * Patient and family teaching * Order appropriate labs, tests, and procedures and follow up with patient as needed * Coordinate care and refer to other medical professionals as needed * Document clinic, telephone, and other patient encounters in the Epic system * Review lab results in Epic, communicate and interpret results * Collaborate with IBD Resource Nurse regarding IBD patient triage and return patient calls within 24-48 hours; provide feedback regarding scheduling of urgent patient appointments * Review outside records including clinic notes, hospital records, outside radiographs, lab, and other test results * Collaborate with nursing staff to complete patient paperwork including medication pre-certifications for insurance companies, durable medical equipment requests, disability paperwork, and handicapped permit applications * Attendance at GI Grand Rounds, IBD meetings, and IBD conferences is expected. Participation in other divisional educational events is also encouraged. Job Eligibility Requirements Education * Nurse Practitioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing. * Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred. Certification * BLS required. License * Nurse Practitioners: Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. Job Duties & Responsibilities * Expected to work independently seeing already established internal medicine and pediatric patients within the practice, and has the option in building/managing a panel of patients across the age spectrum while meeting needs of the practice * Will have 8 four-hour clinical sessions a week. * Work Saturday and evening clinics in addition to weekday responsibilities, consistent with other practice members. * Take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and plan assessments for patients based on age and medical issues. * Expected to be well versed in health care maintenance guidelines for all ages, including but not limited to vaccinations, anticipatory guidance, cancer screening and cardiovascular risk assessments * Be able to prescribe medication and recommend procedures as needed * Coordinate care for patients * Write notes in Epic for each patient seen and have them closed within 3 business days. * Order laboratory and radiologic studies as needed; explain necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic studies to the patient. * Be able to interpret studies and explain results to patients in a timely manner. * Be able to see medically complex children and adults and be able to coordinate care as needed with specialists, therapists, and home health companies * Be able to fill out forms for school, home health agencies, insurance companies, and therapists * Complete office procedures such as minor skin procedures, joint injections, etc. If interested, may be involved with procedures, such as ear piercing, Nexplanon insertion * Help create effective systems and protocols to enhance the clinic's operations as needed * Take part in practice's conferences, Division meetings, and CMEs * Regularly participate in various relevant educational programs to ensure both technical and professional competence are maintained.
