General Description of the Job Class
* A Central SterileProcessingTechnician, Non-Certified is responsible for cleaning, decontamination, assembly, and high-level disinfection of all reusable medical instrumentation. Maintains high standards consistency and continuous product flow between the OR and SterileProcessing. Responsible for maintaining adequate supply levels in sterile storage area, rotating stock as appropriate pulling case carts for the daily surgical schedule.
Duties and Responsibilities of this Level
* Cleans, decontaminates, assembles, and disinfects scope trays and equipment following established tray lists and manufacture's recommendations.
* Maintains communication with customers and departments regarding requests and delivery of sterile supplies.
* Promotes best practice by demonstrating a commitment to quality patient care.
* Performs assigned duties to maintain unit in a state of survey readiness and maintain quality initiatives. For example quality control measures, emergency equipment checks, and department cleanliness.
* Uses the computerized instrument tracking system in the performance of assigned duties,obtaining instrument count sheets, obtaining special handling instructions for instrumentation documenting sterilization loads, and other assigned tasks.
* Adheres to unit programs to support patient care such as maintaining a quiet environment and customer service.
* Efficient and punctual distribution of case carts, equipment, and stat supplies to the OR and maintain sterility and or cleanliness according to hospital protocol.
* Maintain accurate log for equipment out for repair.
* Tests operational efficiency of Instrumentation prior to reprocessing and reports problems to appropriate leadership.
* Maintains a clean and orderly central processing area (e.g. shelves, counters, equipment).
* Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Required Qualifications at this Level
Education
* High school diploma or equivalent is required.
* Employees hired before 2/18/19 are not required to have high school diploma or equivalent.
Experience
* Previous experience working in a healthcare environment preferred.
* Working knowledge of computer required. Knowledge of surgical instrumentation and care/cleaning strongly preferred; knowledge of sterile techniques preferred.
Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification
* Certification in SterileProcessing and/or Technology required within 2 years of hire date -CSPDT (CBSPD) or CRCST (HSPA).
* Employees hired before 2/18/2019 are not required to obtain certification.

Position Summary:
The SterileProcessingTechnician is responsible and accountable for all functions of the sterileprocessing department, under the guidance of the sterileprocessing department supervisors and manager.
This position is responsible for working independently and with team members to ensure that all surgical instrumentation are properly decontaminated, assembled, inspected, packaged, sterilized, high level disinfected, marked for repair and placed in a proper repair location, and communicate incomplete trays and missing items to management and OR immediately. All instruments must be distributed, tracked and stored in a safe, secure, aseptic and timely manner throughout the hospital and clinics. Immediate-use steam sterilization, tray turnovers between surgical cases and releasing sterilized loads from the department must be performed observing standard practice. Each team member will be qualified to train others as assigned and serve as a front-line resource to sterileprocessing customers.

The candidate will present current certification from either CBSPD: C.S.P.D.T. or HSPA (formerly known as IAHCSMM): C.R.C.S.T. or must attain one of these certifications within 18 months of hire.

The SterileProcessingTechnician is responsible for:
Performs SterileProcessing functions and assorted support duties in decontamination and clean assembly areas in a safe and technical manner consistent with department policies and procedures
The SterileProcessing Tech will be responsible for decontamination and assembly of equipment, instruments and sterilization of supplies.
Maintains established inventory levels of sterile instrumentation/supplies.
Demonstrates dedication to outstanding quality control/assurance of sterile supply.
Inspects and assembles instrument trays using content lists or Manufactures Instruction for Use (IFUs) document as a guide and readiness for sterilization.
Disassembles and cleans instrumentation and equipment.
Wears personal protective gear when washing and disinfecting equipment and instruments
Maintains assigned work area in a clean and organized condition to maintain required standards for handling sterilized and clean materials
Maintains a safe work environment
Ability to work flexible shift times
Work with the team to make sure instrumentation needed for surgery is ready for use daily.

Summary of Functions:
The SterileProcessingTechnician (SPT) is responsible for the instruments used to facilitate organ, eye, and tissue donation, including the core responsibilities of decontamination, instrument wrapping, autoclave usage, and quality control release for recovery use. The SPT will be the subject matter expert for using the instrument washer, supplies utilized to support sterilization, and the areas for quality control release.
The SPT will maintain a clean work environment and be responsible for cleaning the sterilization areas. The SPT will ensure that Central Supply Operations and Policy and Procedures relating to the functions described below are compliant with all regulatory requirements. Performs all duties and responsibilities in compliance with policies and procedures, regulations as outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations, and other applicable federal, state, and local laws.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Decontamination:
1. Processes used instruments through the decontamination process.
2. Restocks solutions used to clean the instruments and work space.
3. Loads and operates instrument washer and learns key functions of the machine, including powering machine on/off, cycle settings and adjustments, notifications of machine issues, and how to tag the equipment as inoperable following OneLegacy P&Ps.
4. Oversees solution maintenance, including communication when solution stock levels fall below par levels for reordering, preparation of solutions, and proper disposal of solutions prior to expiration.
Sterilization:
1. Inspects and ensures instruments have been thoroughly washed.
2. Utilizes correct wrapping technique for instrument type, and include protective coverings as applicable.
3. Loads the autoclave machine using the correct load configuration based on instrument types.
4. Verifies the autoclave is running appropriately for specified cycle. If the autoclave cycle fails or aborts, the SPT is responsible for communication to management for guidance on corrective action for the machine.
5. Documents all activities associated with the use of the autoclave for sterilization procedures as outlined in OneLegacy P&Ps.
6. Communicates with management for inventory stock replenishment.
Quality Control Release:
1. Safely removes instruments from autoclave and places instruments to quarantine hold.
2. Documents instruments undergoing biological indicator quarantine hold.
3. Initiates biological indicator testing process.
4. Reads and interprets results of biological indicator process.
5. Releases or rejects instruments appropriately as determined by biological indicator process.
Central Supply Operations Tasks:
1. Participates in rotating and shelving items, tracking inventory levels and discarding outdated items to ensure adequate levels for clinical readiness.
2. Participates in med gas tank rotation and monitoring to ensure adequate air supply is available.
3. Arranges sharpening and repairing of instruments as needed or required.
4. Ensures cleanliness of Central Supply areas at each OneLegacy facility as outlined in OneLegacy's Policies and Procedures.
5. Performs inspections of all OneLegacy recovery facilities; frequency of inspections is at the discretion of management.
Secondary Duties:
1. Attends all department staff meetings, annual hazard communication and control safety training sessions for Cal-OSHA, contract processors, and other training programs as deemed necessary by the Project Manager of Organs and Tissue Operations
2. Performs all duties and responsibilities in compliance with policies and procedures, regulations as outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations, and other applicable federal, state and local laws.
3. Performs quality control practices as defined by the policies and procedures.
4. Supports the organization's Standards of Professional Conduct as outlined in the OneLegacy Employee Handbook, and the mission, vision and values.
5. Performs all other duties as assigned.
6. Periodical works “after hours” in case of emergencies.
7. Works overtime as needed/required based on department needs.

Job Qualifications and Requirements:
Education: Associates Degree from a two year college, completion of Surgical Technologist, EMT program, or equivalent training in an affiliated health field required.
Experience: A minimum of two years of experience in sterileprocessing is preferred.
Certification/License: OneLegacy requires employees to maintain a current California driver's license and current vehicle insurance. Please refer to OneLegacy's Policy HR108 - Licensure and Certification for insurance coverage requirements.
Requirement:
Employee must be able to pass a local government agency (coroner's office) background check.
Equipment: Reliable automotive transportation required.
Salary Range: $43,680-$53,955.20
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, OneLegacy considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
