Other duties as assigned Transformer Production Reviews wiring diagrams and work order to determine type and size of wire specified, as well as the type, size, length, circumference, of primary and secondary windings of coil to be wound. Selects coil-forming device for specified coil and fastens device onto winding machine arbor or spindle. Turns setscrews to adjust tension on wire and sets counter for number of turns specified. Threads end of wire from reel through tension device, guides, and spreader, bends wire ends to form lead, and attaches lead to coil core. Starts machine and manually feeds wire over coil core or spreader to obtain even and uniform winding and shape of coil; Observes counter and stops machine at specified number of coils. Wraps paper & amp; insulation between layers and around wound coil or inserts plastic blocks between turns to form cooling ducts. Winds coils according to engineer diagrams and drawings using coil-winding machine &, hand tools. Cuts wire to form leads, using wire or bolt cutters; Pounds coil with hammer or mallet to shape end windings or remove coil from fixtures. Inspects coil(s) during winding process to ensure there are no defects and to verify conformance with winding specifications. Ensures quality standards are met and signs off on project QA forms. Moves winding core to staging areas when complete. Disassembles old transformers or damaged coils and makes repairs. Read and interpret winding specification documents to determine characteristics required for specific coil to be wound. Determine coil number, quantity and revision. Record coil number on coil and on labor recording paperwork. Determine and install appropriate mandrel device on machine. Adjust mandrel and plates, as required by window size specification. Load conductor and insulating paper to de-reeling mechanisms on machine. Measure materials, make adjustments to machine to accommodate material and verify proper alignment. Verify proper secondary coil. Make adjustments to machine (flattener, traverse and material tensions) to yield desired finished coil dimensions as specified. Operates hoist equipment. Wind and insulate coil per winding instructions. Wind coil sections per to specified number of turns. Determine adhesive locations per reference specifications and apply liquid adhesive with hand applicator at specified locations throughout the coil. Insert cooling ducts, special insulation and component parts at specified locations throughout the coil. Braze or bend taps and leads into coil at specified locations throughout the coil. Position and insulate leads per winding sheet and diagram(s). Splice material per specifications as required. Remove coil from mandrel device by hand or hoist it aside to pallet. Dip/VPI and bake transformer coils. Tools & Equipment Operate coil winding machine. Use overhead crane, forklift, hoists, to assist in transformer assembly and moving materials/projects.
