Provides support, guidance and leadership for assistants and volunteers. Participates as a member of a teaching team which implements a developmentally appropriate curriculum and assists in maintaining support services for special needs children. Maintains positive working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and families. Follows all Head Start Performance Standards, Agency and Program policies and procedures and other applicable Federal and State regulations to successfully accomplish Agency and Program goals and objectives. Adhere to agency confidentiality policy with respect to information and records concerning children, families and staff. Maintain professional and ethical standards in accordance with agency policy, code of conduct, and legal requirements. ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: PERFORMANCE INDICATORS * Acts in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards and Federal, State and Local regulations pertaining to the safe and healthy operation of a child care center. * Ensures that the classroom/play yard environments meet health and safety standards established by the program and is in compliance with State and Federal regulations. * Facilitates and participates in implementation of curriculum and in development of activities. * Individualized activities based on child's strengths and areas of growth. * Administers development screenings and assessments, conducts observations, maintains portfolios and shares outcomes with families. * Utilizing the outcomes from the screenings, assessments and observations will partner with parents to develop child and family goals. * Conducts four educational conferences, two in the home, and two at the site during program year. * Through screening process assists with identification of possible special needs and/or mental health support. * Implements Individualized Family Services Plan and/or Child and Family Consultant recommendations. * Support coordination of disabilities and mental health services referrals, follow-up and transition services. * Provide opportunities for children to socialize, interact and cooperate with one another. * Provide developmentally appropriate activities and designs classroom interest areas that promote language and literacy, physical, social/emotional, and cognitive growth for children; which enhances overall approaches to learning. * Models successful early childhood teaching strategies and techniques and encourages positive interactions among staff, children, parents, and with community members. * Develop mutual expectations with parents for the experience's children will receive in the classroom. * Encourages parent participation and engagement in the classroom. * Provide education to parents on child development and developmentally appropriate practices. * Responsible for supporting parents in documentation and collection of educational and classroom in-kind and submits to supervisor. * Attends and participates in agency trainings, workshops, in-service and staff meetings. * Participate in setting and achieving professional career development goals. * Participate in mentor/coaching process, and/or reflective supervisor process. * Compile observations and work samples, and update children's portfolios. * Ensures sanitation of classrooms materials and equipment. * File education related materials in files. * Maintain and update parent bulletin boards. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Level II * Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or in the field of Social Work, Human Services, or Health with a minimum of 24 Early Childhood Education units. Level II * Bachelor Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or in the field of Social Work, Human Services or Health, with a minimum of 24 Early Childhood Education units. Other Requirements * State regulations require a physical examination, current tuberculosis test, measles and pertussis immunization, influenza vaccine, and verified fingerprint and criminal records clearance, before beginning work. * Possession of or ability to obtain Pediatric First Aid/CPR Certification within first 60 days of work; must maintain current status. * Possession of a valid California drivers' license; current personal vehicle insurance, or safe driving record sufficient to ensure coverage through the Agency vehicle insurance policy. Must be able to drive to conduct agency business. * One-year experience working in child development, social services, or health related agency. * Must posses three or more units in Infant/Toddler course work. * Education must have previously included or must be able to successfully complete course work in child abuse, substance abuse and domestic violence, within one year of date of hire.     The Human Motor Control and Neuromodulation Lab under Dr. Helen Bronte-Stewart is part of the Stanford Movement Disorders Center within the Department of Neurology and Neurological Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine. We are seeking an experienced, full-time research assistant to join a dynamic and fun diverse group of post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, research scientists, and research assistants. This is a 2-year position. The goal of the research in the laboratory is to understand the pathophysiology of movement disorders such as Parkinson's disease to create more effective therapies. At Stanford, innovations in neural interface technology have allowed us to discover how abnormal electrical brain activity contributes to disorders in movement. In the Human Motor Control and Neuromodulation Lab, the first decoding of electrical activity in deep brain structures during abnormal movement in Parkinson's disease patients was performed using novel and investigative sensing neurostimulators. Our team has deconstructed brain activity to discover the neural code responsible for the abnormality of walking in Parkinson's disease and can predict debilitating freezing events that can cause falls, significant morbidity, and even death. We are currently working to restore movement in Parkinson's disease using real-time closed-loop deep brain stimulation that responds to subcortical neural signals or kinematic signals from wearable sensors in a demand-based fashion. Additional projects include the development of a remote monitoring tool for Parkinson's disease and other disorders which recently received FDA Breakthrough Device Designation, as well as a pilot clinical trial for treating cognitive impairment in Parkinson's disease using a novel approach for deep brain stimulation of the Nucleus Basalis of Meynert. The current position offers an exceptional opportunity for a motivated and intellectually curious individual to participate in rewarding and cutting-edge research in human motor control and neurophysiology in Parkinson's disease. There are also additional exploratory projects in the areas of traumatic brain injury, concussion in athletics, Alzheimer's disease, Major Depressive Disorder, and Dementia with Lewy Bodies. The position involves direct human subject interaction and testing, the collection, organization and analysis of electrophysiological and kinematic data, and participation in the publication of results. The candidate will participate in the submission and renewal of Institutional Review Board and grant applications in conjunction with the research team and the PI. This position offers the opportunity to address a myriad of issues related to diversified farming systems, food security, water quality compliance, irrigation management, soil health, farm sustainability, climate resilience, pest and disease management, enterprise analysis, succession planning, community food security, and overall natural ecosystem resilience. The Advisor will also provide academic oversight for the Master Gardener Program as these volunteers disseminate information to the public and support local horticulture education. This position will integrate ANR's research and extension education efforts across communities to improve the profitability and resilience of plant-based food systems across the region. UCCE Advisors are responsible for conducting applied research and extending knowledge. Research activities are applied and mission-oriented, focused on addressing challenges in our communities. Extension activities are the educational methods that Advisors use to share research results directly with clientele and communities to increase knowledge and understanding of science-based research that supports and promotes the adoption of practices and technologies to solve local problems. Extension activities may include individual farm consultations, presentations, or organizing educational workshops, short courses, and field demonstrations. Information may also be disseminated via radio, webinars, fact sheets, policy briefs, news blogs, social media, and other outlets. Publications are expected in various formats, such as newsletters, articles for the popular press, curricula, conference proceedings, and peer-reviewed publications. Successful research and extension programs result in new information that improves knowledge or understanding and eventual adoption of new skills or practices, changed attitudes or policies, and improved environmental, economic, or social conditions. UCCE Advisors are evaluated through an academic advancement system based on four criteria: 1) extending knowledge, 2) applied research and creative activity, 3) professional competence and activity, and 4) university and public service. Location Headquarters: This position will be headquartered at the Humboldt County UCCE Office, 5630 South Broadway, in Eureka, or the Del Norte County UCCE Office, 586 G Street, Crescent City. The successful candidate may choose the location they prefer for their office headquarters. Position Details Humboldt and Del Norte Counties have numerous vegetable, fruit, and ornamental growers, including ~150 certified organic producers (22% of the region's agricultural production). The North Coast has an abundant supply of water, and the region's agricultural importance will likely increase as prolonged droughts and climate change impacts continue throughout the state. North Coast farmers grow a variety of crops sold at farmers' markets, roadside stands, community-supported agricultural programs, groceries, and restaurants. Agricultural entrepreneurs are the backbone of local food production, which supports rural food security, provides rural family incomes, sustains economic diversity, and enhances the regional quality of life. The North Coast hosts an internationally important bulb and lily industry, as Del Norte County produces 95% of the nation's Easter lily bulbs. The region's diverse producers, along with socially disadvantaged and underserved Hispanic, Native American, and Hmong agricultural entrepreneurs, will benefit from UC ANR extension support. This is an exciting opportunity to develop and deliver relevant program content to have meaningful impacts in these local communities and throughout California. The Advisor will conduct applied research on topics relevant to local growers, based on a clientele needs assessment and the Advisor's expertise. The Sheltzer Laboratory is broadly interested in identifying the genetic changes that occur during tumorigenesis and influence drug sensitivity, metastasis, and patient outcomes. We apply a number of high-throughput approaches, including CRISPR screening, RNA- Seq, single-cell sequencing, and copy number profiling, to generate comprehensive data on cancer physiology in vitro and in vivo. Through this work, we seek to improve our understanding of the genetic drivers of aggressive tumors and identify cancer-specific therapeutic vulnerabilities. We are particularly interested in uncovering the role of aneuploidy, or chromosome copy number changes, in cancer-related processes. We are looking to hire a computational biologist who will work closely with other scientists in the Sheltzer Lab to aid in the design and analysis of high-throughput experimental results. Initial responsibilities will include conducting copy number analysis on cancer specimens, identifying patterns of transcriptional alterations following drug treatments, and contributing to the analysis of CRISPR screening data. SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: * Compiles observations and work samples and update children's portfolios. * Ensures sanitation of classrooms materials and equipment. * Files education related materials in files. * Maintains and updates parent bulletin boards. * Other duties as assigned within the scope of position classification. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Level I * Associate Teacher Permit (California Commission on Teacher Credentialing - 5-year permit) or a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential * Minimum of one-year classroom experience - minimum 3 hours/day for 50 days within 6-month period is equal to one-year experience). * Must have a minimum of 24 Early Childhood Education units (12 core) and 16 General Education Units and an additional 3 units of Early Childhood Education course work with a "C" grade or better relating to Infant/Toddler development. Level II * Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or in the field of Social Work, Human Services, or Health with a minimum of 24 Early Childhood Education units (12 core). * One years' experience working for a child development, social services or health related agency. * Must possess three or more units in Infant/Toddler development. * Education must have previously included or must be able to successfully complete course work in child abuse, substance abuse and domestic violence within one year of date of hire. Level III * Bachelor Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or in the field of Social Work, Human Services, or Health with a minimum of 24 Early Childhood Education units (12 core). * One year's experiences working in child development, social services or health related agency. * Must possess three or more units in Infant/Toddler development. * Education must have previously included or must be able to successfully complete course work in child abuse, substance abuse and domestic violence within one year of date of hire. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: * Ability to read and comprehend documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. * Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints. * Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. * Ability to speak effectively before groups of parents or employees of organization. * Bilingual/biliterate (English/Spanish) and/or other language ability may be required based on program needs. * Ability to add, subtracts, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compare rate, ratio and percent. * Ability to understand and use a variety of computer applications and appropriate software. * Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. * Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized or not standardized situation. * Knowledge of sound medical, dental and nutritional practices for young children. * Awareness of community resources and services. * Possession of a valid drivers' license; current personal vehicle insurance or safe driving record sufficient to ensure insurability through Agency policy. * Possession of or ability to obtain Pediatric First Aid/CPR Certification within first sixty 60 days of work; must maintain current status. * E Center policies require a physical examination, current tuberculosis test, and verified fingerprint and criminal record clearance before beginning work. * Knowledge of and sensitivity to diversity and understanding the needs of families from different cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds. * Effective organizational and time management skills including ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines. * Ability to problem solve and be proactive. * Ability to work and communicate effectively and professionally with coworkers, parents, children and members of the community. * Ability to travel occasionally within and outside the Head Start service area. * Ability to work some evenings and weekends for parent trainings, parent center committee meetings and recruitment events. * Ability to learn and comply with Head Start Performance Standards, Federal, State and local laws concerning the operation of child care centers.
